Twenty Minutes of Carnage: How the Sri Lankan Bomb Attack on Churches, Hotel Unfolded

This was the first major attack on Indian Ocean Island since the end of a civil war 10 years ago. These bombings exploded on Easter Sunday through churches and luxury hotels in Sri Lanka, in which 207 people were killed and 450 injured. These eight blasts broke through the island nation, and 262 people died there and at least 450 were injured in the worst terrorist attack of the decade. Many of its attacks were carried out by suicide bombers. Here is the time for the incidents of the explosions on Sunday and after that.

This bomb is in the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo, this is the St Anthony Church of Kochchikade of Kotahena, Colombo in the blast. This is 11.40 am the government announces closure of schools across the country for two days. It was 12.15 pm by President Maithripala Sirisena, appealing to people to be calm; it was at 1.45 am in the New Tropical Inn in Dehiwela near the National Zoo. It was the seventh explosion. It was at 2.15 pm, a house explosion in Dematagoda in Colombo, 'The Eighth Explosion' during a police raids. Three police officers were killed. At 2.20 p.m., the authorities closed the island nation zoo in Dehiwela.

At 2.30 p.m., the government blocks major social media networks and messaging services like Facebook and Whatsapp. At 2.45 a.m., the government announces an indefinite curfew. At 4:00 p.m. all transportation services closed. At 4.30 pm the government announced the closure of all state universities indefinitely. A special cabinet meeting was held at 5.00 in the evening, which was chaired by Prime Minister Wickremesinghe. At 5.20 pm, the police announced that the number of people killed with 450 wounded increased to 207.

This evening, at 7.00 pm, the police got a van used for the explosive transport. At 7.15 pm, the tourism chief says 32 foreigners were killed and 30 were injured. At 8.50 am, the Prime Minister ordered an investigation that why intelligence services failed to warn about the attacks. This night 9.30 police said that 13 arrested, all Sri Lankan. Police said that it was reported at 10.30 in a petrol bomb attack on a mosque and the arson on two shops owned by Muslims in two separate parts of the country.
