Fear and Loathing In Buffalo NY - Terrorism and Turkey Day

I was supposed to spend the day cleaning house and getting ready for Thanksgiving. Instead I spent the day glued to the TV watching a supposed terror attack that was less than 15 minutes away from my house.

At this point nobody seems to know what happened on the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls NY. At first it was a car filled with explosives. Then they shut down the airport and all bridge travel between NY and Canada was stopped. Airports were put on high alert. Locals panicked. Everyone sat glued to their TV sets trying to figure out what was happening. Eventually the media began to backtrack saying it wasn't terrorism, there were no explosives and a car burst into flames after crashing into the border crossing at a high rate of speed. IDK. The driver and passenger were killed in the explosion. We're still not 100% on whether or not there was a passenger though.

Several family members and freinds called the house. We're right on the Canadian border and my mother often goes over there for bingo. She was going to go today but had some minor health issues that kept her home. She was happy she didn't leave though. That's the bridge she usually uses.

Things escalated quickly from terrorist attack to we don't know what's happening.

What we do know is several witnesses saw a Chrysler 300 or possibly a Bentley drive up the street at a high rate of speed. Street cameras tracked the car from the local casino which is right on the US Canadian border and about 2 city blocks from the border crossing.

Conspiracy theories are running rampant throughout the city. My guess is some rich dude left the casino in his Bentley doing a little early Thanksgiving partying, hit the gas on his Bentley and things literally spun out of control. I could be wrong, but that's my guess.

Anyway, it was a pretty wild day. I spent the evening preparing the Thanksgiving Day bird and drinking rum and cokes. A dude has to unwind after events like this.

Turkey prepped and ready for the oven

The turkey was cleaned, soaked in brine water. I then added spices, some butter under the skin and stuffed the inside with onion and celery to help retain moisture. Should make some good gravy!

Time to spark up a bowl and hit the hay early. I'll wake up early and start the turkey in the morning. I really can't wait to dig into this turkey. I'll post some pix of the finished bird tomorrow. The Dude can roast a turkey!

It's going to be interesting to watch these news stories unfold. At this point, nobody knows for sure exactly what happened. It's obvious the country is in a heightened state of paranoia since the Israeli Hammas war started. The propaganda is working. SMH. Should make for some interesting dinner conversation tomorrow. SMH. God I hate politics and the state of our world right now!

These are crazy times we're living in.

Happy Thanksgiving to those that celebrate. Cheers!

People will speculate when there's a lack of information and the news channels want to keep them watching. That's the nature of things. Maybe it was a tragic accident, but we can't know yet. These days we get lots of folk thinking they are experts and willing to spout off online. Those with vested interests have done a good job of lowering confidence in journalists and authorities. I don't think that's a good thing.

Enjoy your thanksgiving anyway. Maybe ban talk about politics.

LOL, good luck with that, everyone is a political pundit these days. I agree though.

I'm gonna try that celery and onion trick. Getting ready to put ours in the smoker.

That's wild about the explosion. Be safe, Dood!

The smoker sounds good! Wish I had one. I've used the celery and onion trick for years. I love the way it comes out. Have a great Thanksgiving. Stay safe. Cheers!

Happy Thanksgiving.

Sorry to hear about the events in your neighbourhood. I tend to agree we're living in a paranoid world where people seem to add 2+2 and get 500!

Thank you. Hope you are well.

No doubt. Things are getting crazy! That about sums it up. 🤣

We see all the people are celebrating this day and all the people are enjoying by cooking delicious food inside the house.
