Adventures in the UK: So Much More Than Just Cities

in #travel6 years ago

When you think of the UK, what’s the first thing that springs to mind? Perhaps the vibrant city of London brimming with royal buildings, or maybe Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff or Glasgow with their shops, nightlife, festivals and general excitement.

There truly are some amazing cities in the UK. Each of them is well worth a visit if you get the chance. However, there’s more to England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales than just their large cities. The UK is home to lots of awesome locations that are just as spectacular as the big built up areas.

Beaches

Due to the temperamental British weather, the UK might not be your first choice if you want a tropical beach holiday. However, with that being said, there are some lovely beaches in the UK and during the summer there are often spells of very hot weather. The British seaside is perfect for enjoying fish and chips or an ice cream, making sandcastles and enjoying games on the beach. If you're down south in England on a hot day, take a trip down to the coast!

Lochs and Lakes

If you're in Scotland, the large lakes are known as lochs. These bodies of water are incredible, as well as giving you fantastic photo opportunities you can go swimming, boating, fishing, bird watching, try your hand at different water sports and much more. You also have the Lake District in northern England which is home to lakes, mountains and beautiful scenery. Throughout the rest of the UK, you have Bala Lake in Wales, Coniston Water in England and Loch Neagh in Northern Ireland amongst others. If you want to get out on the waters then these could all be good options

Countryside

There are tonnes of incredible places in the country you can visit throughout the UK, so if rolling hills, greenery and tranquility is your kind of thing then you're in luck. Outside if the big cities you can explore quaint villages, take a walk along rivers, through the woods, meadows and more. How about an afternoon tea in a tea room, or a gastropub for some hearty pub grub. Derbyshire is home to lots of countryside, views and country events- you could stay somewhere like the Breadsall Priory Marriott Hotel & Country Club if this is a part of England that appeals to you. England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales all have their share of spectacular scenery that's well worth checking out.

Parks

The National Trust is a conservation organization and charity. They have parked in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland and work to protect and preserve beautiful historic places. If you're in the UK these are some of the most stunning places to visit. There are a number of parks and historic houses that you can look around. Many of these offer things like galleries, exhibitions, and events so check to see what's on when you visit. Otherwise, you could just browse, take some photographs, observe the gorgeous scenery and wildlife. The perfect want to enjoy completely unspoiled views.

Where would you most like to go and visit in the UK?

That's all over the news now lol

@adonisabril,
I love the UK! Especially the countryside. The pics are beautiful!
Thanks for the tour!
@Lymmerik

The weather tempermental, everyone agrees, it seems, because several of my mentors are graduates of British universities and certainly say, and well, I would love to explore their fields that through the different platforms show to be true beauties @adonisabril

I lived in Birmingham for almost ten years and spring would almost remind me of pink trees. Not sure what those were but some of them would blossom in bright pink color, which was always very nice to see. Definitely want to visit Cambridge and Bournemouth :)

I would check it out myself.

The UK is interesting in that it almost has an unlimited circumference given that it is mostly coastline.

A wonderful option, through his photos only transmits tranquility, energy to strengthen the spirit to continue fighting from day to day, thank you for sharing.

Hi. When i think of UK, i think on red buses and that red Phone Booth 🤔.
And I like that UK weather. I wish i had more time to see all of things You are talking abut.
Love your pictures with your post.

Shrewsbury, Shropshire is the archetypal town in the UK. A mix of rural and urban. A busy town centre but you don't have to travel far for green fields and great views. Church Stretton about 15 minutes away is famous for its hills and 'Cardingmill Valley'. I know i'm bias being born here but seriously if you are visiting England and get the chance it is honestly beautiful.

I'll have to check those out!

beautiful photos thousand congratulations, make you want to visit the United Kingdom but go to places as beautiful, very good publication! there is to bring love for nature to all corners. Greetings from Venezuela

I have never been outside of the United States and the UK is one of the places I would love to visit. Mainly for the countryside for photography opportunities. While seeing sites like the Big Ben and such, the scenery attracts me more than the more touristy places. It's the little nooks and crannies that seem to hold the most memorable places in our hearts. Your photos really make me wish I could visit one day soon! Hopefully, this will happen! Very lovely photographs!

It's always good to check out the road less traveled around an oft-trodden place :)

Excellent post.I live on the Welsh Border. Big event in this neck of the woods at this time of year is the Hay Festival

I dont know how to say it in more gentle way, so I'll be frank:
London is shit.

Dont get stabbed.

It already took over New York in murder rate even tho there are no guns.
Oh and also watch out for acid attacks.

Damn, didn't know that!

I was just there and it was fine. People are so dramatic.

For how long?
You consider it safe, because you spent couple hours there?
Somehow people are moving out of this place.
I personally met some folks who fled, because of quote: "black on black violence".
Glad your visit didnt end in a coffin.
People who live there everyday dont consider it safe tho.

Lovely photos! I was just in the UK. I spent a few days in London, which was fun, but very busy. It was not only a bank holiday, but it was also sunny the entire time, and nearly 30º. Not like any other time I've visited London. My parents were along, though, and it was their very first visit to the UK, so it was fun showing them some of the very touristy things. Then, I stayed more in the Manchester area for the rest of my trip, and loved my travels in that area. So beautiful. I plan on going back, and visiting even more, like Scotland and Ireland. I haven't been to either of those places in about 15 years.

I want to visit Scotland and Ireland again as well. Especially the Isle of Skye!

True, in this busy world, we have some beautiful natural places which are cut offed from the rat race and busy actions, and these places can slow down our time by throwing the breathtaking and refreshing effect. And these kind of places really great in essence and can heal us from the depressive times. The most important thing is, natural view can give the new energy to fight with the daily battles of life. Thanks for sharing this post with us and wishing you an great day. Stay blessed. 🙂

It's always good to get out once in a while :)

Yes, that's true. 🙂

If I have a chance to travel, I prefer to Scotland, in addition to the beautiful city, its population is also very friendly with migrants

Today, when I hear Great Britain, the first thing I think about is the big wedding of Prince Garry ...
I like to travel, in the winter I visited Vietnam, and last spring - Greece, which I write about now in my blog. In the UK, I was not yet. But judging by your great photos, it's worth visiting this country. Thank you )

My home, Devonshire (Devon) - by far one of the most beautiful counties and with the most temperate climates in all England... and where I'll one day return!

Hello there!!!!, nice post, i hope one day to travel to those places there are beautiful.
good luck!!! have a wonderful day!!!!

Thanks for sharing this with the community. It always nice to read something that is done with passion.
