Have You Heard Of This Stunning Place - “Conil de la Frontera” In Spain?
Is there anything quite as blissful as an amble by the seashore?
The feeling of being surrounded by the cerulean-blue gown of sea and walking through an airy womb of beach that seems to be dipped in earthshine-gold is the ultimate delight.
Many of us have heard of the beaches in Spain and that they are generally beautiful and scenic. But what you probably haven’t heard much of is this hidden paradise, “Conil de La Frontera.” This Atlantic Coast town in the South of Spain possesses the title of “White Town” due to its uniformly white-painted houses all around the city like in Santorini, Greece. The white, sandy beaches of La Concha definitely cast a charm over many due to its crystal clear water from the Atlantic Ocean.
This hidden gem is perfect for anyone who is hoping to get away from the swarming beaches or just take a moment to find peace and rejuvenate their spirits.
Conil de la Frontera is located in the south of the Cadiz province along the Atlantic coast, with a beach that stretches out for almost 14 km.
For centuries, this place was a fisherman’s village and was founded by the Phoenicians. During ancient times, land was limited for agriculture, thus, most of the Phoenicians made their living via the ocean. According to ancient legend, Phoenicians, also known as the great sea traders, had always actively participated in exploring new ways and techniques of fishing, through the innovation of shipbuilding. Their great effort was the reason for this breakthrough that led the town to flourish back then. Even now, their fishing tradition is still practiced widely by the local fishermen.
The town also has a rich history where many tribes and nationalities like the Romans, Muslims, Vandals and Christians were once the conquerors. Today, you can find so many different historical traces left within this town. For example, the great Guzman Tower “Torre de Guzman” and the Cathedral “Parish of Saint Catherine of Alexandria” are the perfect landmarks for all history lovers to explore and discover the ancient histories of this town.
These strong influences that leapt across the town have given the atmosphere a distinctive characteristic to the unspoilt beaches, cobbled-stone streets, and the friendly locals.
Although this town is small, it is filled with surprises. The profuse history and the perfect, quiet beach will make you choose this town over any others for a weekend get-away or a summer vacation. The sublime, warm weather in this province is a true blessing for everyone who needs to escape the cold.
Of the six beaches in this town, Playa Los Bateles is the most popular. You’ll find restaurants and countless bars along the beach. It is perfect for anyone who fancies a drink or to have dinner while enjoying the sunset.
To the many surfers out there, if you are still wondering where your next surfing destination is, I can ensure you that the beaches in Conil are going to be on your bucket list. The constant waves, solid and uncrowded breaks of the sea are a dream come true for all surfers. If you’re a beginner or an intermediate surfer, there are plenty of surf schools offered here in Conil at different beaches. The depth of the sea is generally around chest high, but the ride of the waves is normally quite long. If this still doesn’t convince you, the very little-known and uncongested beaches here will definitely lift up your adventurous spirit to give it a try.
You’ll be surprised to see most of the beaches are quiet, unlike any other popular beaches in the world where people are busy applying sunscreen or searching for a spot to soak up the warm sun.
Here at Conil de la Frontera, you’ll definitely find a quiet retreat, accompanied by the azure blue sea. The peaceful environment makes it a perfect getaway for both couples and families.
Start your day by strolling around “White Town”, immerse yourself in one of the many peculiar maze-like streets that coils all over the streets of Conil. Slowly explore the historical sites that are well preserved since the Phoenicians ruling era like the “Gunzman Tower” and “Parish of Saint Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral”.
While strolling on the cobble stone streets, it is interesting that even though the streets are complicated to walk, it’s not easy for anyone to get lost. Because you’ll always end up with a path that leads you straight to the main shopping district.
The Spanish love vibrant colors and you’ll see many colourful decorations in most of the houses. The well-decorated flowers, like those on the stark white walls, make the environment appear to be clean and lively.
While I was strolling down the street, I was amazed by the colorful ledges and blooming flowers, like bougainvillea and carnations, hanging around the windows, that instantly embellish the atmosphere. It’s just stunning.
Don’t miss the vivacious alleys where you’ll see many locals having a drink. Just in the next lane of the restaurants and local cafes, you will find an alley where you can do some souvenir shopping. Or alternatively, visit the “Plaza de Espana” where you’ll see most of the crowds, especially during the evening where most of the bars and Tapas restaurants are set-up to welcome the nightlife goers.
Spanish people are best at utilizing their creativity on food. Therefore, it is no surprise that you will find many quaint local restaurants and cafes to savour the local delicacies, ranging from local authentic tapas to the unique artisanal dishes that will satisfy anyone’s taste buds.
Stop by at a quaint tapas cafe after a long walk to have some delicious tapas. Fueled up with some of the local’s creative tapas, like tuna tartar that combined both raw tunas and sweet strawberries that was followed by their home-made secret sauce. Or try out their hearty and filling dish of freshly grilled pork fillet that was drenched with creamy butter sauce that will keep you wanting more.
After a satisfying meal, continue the journey to a local supply market to see and experience the local culture by learning the sources of food served here in Conil de la Frontera. In my opinion, knowing your food sources is the best travel education that one can get.
I have never seen a tuna fish head as big as the size of 3 footballs combined, but here was one being displayed on the market walkway.
As a fisherman's town, this place is the perfect spot for all seafood lovers. Every day, the fresh catches are loaded into carts for sale at the market. Most of the seafoods are sold quickly before the afternoon due to the high demand from the restaurants and the locals. It is amazing to witness the plethora of seafood in this small town. The energetic fish market will definitely brighten your day.
The other highlight in Conil is the lively fish auction at the port. There, you’ll truly experience an authentic vibe of the fishing aftermath. The intense auction for tuna is where the atmosphere gets tenser, as everyone wants the best quality tuna for their restaurant.
In the afternoon, take a break from sightseeing. Enjoy the constant sea breeze on a beach chair at your hotel by reading a novel, listening to an audio book or taking a dip in the refreshing ocean. It is the perfect way for you to beat the heat.
Alternatively, escape the heat by going to a beach bar for a snack or an ice-cold drink.
Savor a glass of “Sangria”, an alcoholic beverage of Spanish origin. A traditional red wine, infused with chopped tropical fruits like pineapple and orange, it is a perfect summer drink. Occasionally, you’ll find that brandy is included in this drink, accompanied by a savory finger-food, like the lightly battered anchovies - ideal for snacking.
Despite the scorching hot sun during the day, by evening, it is perfect for slowing down your pace by having a walk along the beach.
Seeing the yellow ball of fire slowly disappearing under the horizon of the sea and in just a short while, the sun has been replaced by a thousand stars in the sky. This is the natural sign that is calling to end your perfect day at this magical town of “Conil de la Frontera”.

I find your post and photos very entertaining. The fish looks amazing and the street where you captured the photos looks really great. Steemit is just for you my friend
Thank you so much for the compliment. This place is a true gem in Andalusia even though it's not known for many yet. But, I am pretty sure the natural beauty of this place is going to be a hype soon. So, why not give it a visit and I can guarantee you that it's going to be worth it :) Nice to have you around~
paradise on earth
Spain has its own tourist attraction and some cool stuffs ranging from food, hotels, scenery & etc. They also beatiful beaches with white sand and crystal clear water.
Yep 👍🏼 agree 100 %
beautiful sun and tasty food
Great article and really nice photos, especially the wide sandy and uncrowded beach... I am a huge fan of Spain 🌴 and Andalusia is one of my favourite part of Spain because of the best weather and wide range of such unique and beautiful places like presented in this post. I prefer smaller Spanish towns and traditional coastal villages because of their natural charm, and more quiet and relaxing character, and real Spanish lifestyle which is sometimes hard to find in most popular, crowded and commercialised Spanish tourist destinations. I haven't been in Conil de la Frontera yet, but after reading your article I think I found an ideal place for my next holidays 🌞
I'm looking forward to more articles about Spain, and waiting for the summer.
I am so glad to hear that I am able to inspire you to visit this beautiful place for your next vacation! I totally agree that Andalusia is the best part of Spain, not just because of the weather but the landscape is magnificent. The uncrowded town like this is allowed us to be close to the locals and as you said away from the commercialized areas where everything is not so authentic anymore. I really prefer places like this to just relax and take a step back from the busy streets like in Barcelona and etc..
That's another article about Malaga in Spain which was already published on adsactly. I did published some articles about Ronda and Malaga my profile too. Check it out if you want :) See you around~
Could you kindly tell me what camera you are using? Thanks :)
Hey there, I am using A6000, 10-18mm f/4 OSS lens and some of them are shot using iPhone.
Your articles are great and very inspiring and I have read your article about Malaga too because I plan to move to Spain, probably to Malaga in the nearest future. I like the quality of photos in your posts and looking for more articles about Spain.
Oh yea, Malaga is really beautiful. I love that place! Pretty sure that's going to be a good choice moving there :)
This looks like such an awesome place! I bet you guys had a great time out there in Spain! Thanks for the great article @adsactly
I just wanna say that I love Steemit because of posts like these. There's so much genuity (don't know if that's the right word, but fuck it!) on this platform and just genuine sharing of ideas, thoughts and experiences that I simply don't see on traditional social media platforms where everything seems either fake, exaggerated, filtered, or even toned down somehow to some form of bullshit.
It may even be the case that it's like this because it's a new platform and most of the people don't know each other from their personal lives. But I wish that regular social media was like this too, where people can just cut the bullshit and say what they want to really say without thinking twice and just express themselves without giving a fuck.
I just love it here!
First of all, thank you so much for dropping such a genuine comment and the lovely compliments. That means a lot for me to keep my work going. I would like to emphasize that I totally agree with you, there's a lot of social media platform on the internet lately where most of the post is paid post, where travelers are paid to write something good about the place. No offense but, it's true.
For me, I travel and document it for all my followers and readers to understand a place like this can be so beautiful without the exaggerating editing on words or photos because I believe authenticity is most important to show everyone what it is like to be in reality. And I am extremely glad that you saw that point coming out from us.
Hope to see you here and continue to support us :) Good luck~
City very charming, calm and shaded by the parasol pines.
Seaside still wild because the construction is integrated in the landscape.
Beautiful beaches, wide and fed with fresh water.
Absolutely, I had the best time of my life over there. Anyway, glad to see you here again :)

Wow this is really beautiful, thanks for sharing and more grace to your elbow
All reminds very much of Montenegro, my country. Only we drink there more rakija then sangria :)))
Rest is pretty much the same, yes, amazingly beautiful. Its easy to be similar, as Spain and Montenegro are part of Mediteraninan coast of Europe. The most wonderful climate and nature in the world. :) Sorry for not being modest this time. Namaste. :)
That sounds like my next destination to be! Despite that I really love sangria, but, rakija might going to be my essential fuel the next time when I traveled there. Then I make sure to have you tagged :)
Thanks for dropping by :) More to come on adsactly, stay tuned!

Wow!!! I've never heard of this place, it's really beautiful!
Amazing post! Spain is an awesome
country but unfortunately, some areas such as a couple of places from Costa Brava and Costa Blanca are filled with masses of tourists, so you're unable to gain a better understanding of the true Spanish culture. I'm very excited to hear about hidden gems such as Conil, and I'm really looking forward to exploring Spain more.
That's very lovely of you. I think that every country is having the same problem where some places are overly populated with tourist but, there are also places where you can have an authentic cultural experience of a country. Can't wait for you to visit this lovely town in Spain. Have fun & good luck.
Wow
Spain is such a great deal of scenic beauty alongside the great foods.
It's one reason you should feel refreshed
It's indeed a spirit rejuvinator, a home away from home.
Haha, a nice quote you got it right there "a home away from home".
very nice *!

Se ve muy hermoso y atrayente el lugar, con sus amplias playas de arena blanca. un pueblo pintoresco y productos culinarios que lucen espectaculares, la cocina española es reconocida internacionalmente por su alta calidad.
The place is very beautiful and attractive, with its wide white sand beaches. a picturesque town and culinary products that look spectacular, Spanish cuisine is internationally recognized for its high quality.

Yes, you should be proud :)
Amazing pictures and a narrative article. Someday you must come to Turkey.
Both the city and the beach are beautiful, I hope to visit those places some day. I really liked your post, thanks for sharing your experiences, greetings from Venezuela.
@adsactly it really is a resort full of beauty, a paradise to relax and meditate that it is worthy to live in this world. I love the way spanish people care about nature, a good example to follow
Absolutely, the unspoiled beaches over there are a dream come true!
@exlorernations gracias por responder, keep telling us about those places so that we can go to the map and realize that they exist, not all is bad in this world
ok, so Spain is Mexico's rich cousin. But if you know the history, you'll know why that is the case though.
Anyway, nice post. Made me miss Mexico. And I kinda wish Mexico looked like that too. Although Mexico is beautiful, it's really poorly run by the government. Hopefully peace will come to the people there, for at this moment there is much violence in the streets. My prayers go out the them.
on a more livelier note.
I didn't know you were a witness?!?!?!?
I got you bro.
one vote coming up.
Bonito lugar pesquero. Gracias a los fenicios todavía la pesca prevalece el mercado esta activo. Bellas imágenes turísticos.
wow good. I also like trevel. I love to go there
In your photographs Spain looks very similar to the Greek islands because of its white walls in its streets, it looks beautiful you look an aura of tranquility
That's true. The white-painted walls show similarity to Santorini, Greece. However, I believe different country posses a different culture even though they might show some similarities in some way.
Even so they remain beautiful with their similarities and difference
