Exploring Vienna #3: An "Italian" Breakfast and some Considerable Discoveries

In the final report of my expedition to Vienna I will share some not so well known secrets of the city.

Having a really "Italian" breakfast

I started my day of discoveries in the Gelateria Castelletto at Schwedenplatz (Sweden Square), a decent Italian café near the river, and ordered an Italienisches Frühstück (Italian breakfast):

To my suprise the "Italian" breakfast was actually an American coffee and a French croissant. But I was not in the mood to discuss this topic with an Italian waiter that seemed to be proud of his "Italian" specialties. So I ate the croissant and left the place.

One of the tallest buildings in the world

The first destination on my journey was the Bruno-Marek-Hof, one of the tallest buildings in the world:

The owner, presumably Herr Bruno Marek himself, seems to be really proud of his architectural wonder, as he compares it on its front with other high-rise buildings.

You can find this impressive building in the Gumpendorfer Straße (Gumpendorfer Street), if you want to see it with you own eyes.

Discovering a secret door in the library of the Hofburg

In the Hofburg, the former residence of the Austrian Emperors, there are two libraries. The National Library and a smaller one, which can be entered through this entrance:

The interior of this library is really impressive:

As I wandered around in the library hall my computer-game-trained eyes saw something that was hidden very badly:

A secret door. On the other side of the room there was another one, that someone had forgot to close:

To my disappointment the room behind it was very small and contained no treasures at all. It seemed to me I wasn't the first, that has discovered it.

The only stock exchange in the world that contains a gas station

As I wandered around later in the city I discovered something else, that is worth mentioning:

The red building is the stock exchange of Vienna. Probably it's the only stock exchange in the world, that contains a gas station.

Nice series.

That library was really cool! I wonder if that secret room had some kind of effective use in the past.

Maybe it was a place, where the librarian could have a nap.
