I woke up to rain drops-uh oh! Is it because we chose to zip line first thing in the morning instead of waiting for the rain to clear? Apparently, they don’t cancel the tour unless there are thunder/lightning storms. I’m a big scaredy cat; I am afraid of heights and roller coasters. Signing up was fine, but actually seeing some zip-liners at the Fortuna Waterfall made me nervous-they were high up and were going pretty fast. Honestly, I wanted to back out, but J tried to calm me down and said it’s actually not bad. I remember zip-lining in Puerto Vallarta (zip-lined into the water) and remembered being scared during the acceleration, but once I was at a constant speed, it was beautiful and enjoyed it a lot! They gave us a short practice one and gave feedback on how we can improve to brake properly. I wasn't scared because I was so distracted by making sure I had to brake/slow down.
Crap, the next one is the real one, and it's really high up! “Breathe - take a big breath in, and breathe out. There’s nothing to worry about,” I kept telling myself in efforts to calm my own nerves. I was starting to shake; I couldn’t tell if I was nervous or if I was cold-maybe both!
“Ready, Cat?” one of the tour guides asked. He noticed I was shaking, and asked “why are you chicken? You chicken because you're cold or because you're scared? You know, it’s very beautiful, not scary at all! No need to be nervous!”
Me: “Scared! But let’s go!” .. no idea why I said “let’s go” when I’m scared!
The guide counts me down, "1, 2, 3, bye bye!" He lets go of me.
I feel a rush of thin cold air rushing to my face. I looked to my left, then to my right, then down.. sh!t, I’m very high up.. oh crud.. why did I look down?!! Wow, this is making my heart beat fast. I feel a rush of adrenaline rush through my body, oh gosh, I’m getting scared.. why did I decide to do this again?? Okay, breathe, just breathe..
Then BAM! Wow, the view is spectacular! Yes, I still feel the thin cold air brush past my face, but I’m no longer focused on that, and I really cannot believe how amazing this looks! Wow, just WOW! I went further down while trying to slow down. Ahh, I see everyone else, so that’s the end of the first line! In just matter of (what felt like) a minute, it already ended and realized it’s not frightening (maybe the first initial seconds; the acceleration), but after that, it’s just spectacular!
Racing to the finish line; you can see I was leaps ahead of him!
The rain ranged from sprinkles to scattered rain. And when it did rain while zip lining, the rain drops were big and definitely hurt my face! Oh my gosh, it felt like a bunch of tiny babies slapping me across my face!
Did a total of 7 zip lines. Although the views were great, I wish it was clear so we had the view of the volcanos and lake. But nonetheless, this is definitely the highlight of my trip so far! Huge thanks to J and the tour guides for calming me down and ensuring I was safe the whole way through.
