Relaxing Cruise

in #travellast year

It has been quite a while since my husband and I had a decent vacation. We took a short cruise. Our goal was to just relax.

Our first day on board (last week Monday) was cold and misty. I hated that Disney returned to the old muster drill where you have to wait for everyone to show up. Unfortunately, our station was on deck in the cold. We avoided the outside decks after that. We saw the show in the theater (Rapunzel) and then had our dinner (we had the late seating). We had a table with two other couples and we enjoyed their company.

Our second day was nice. It was colder in the morning, but the afternoon was great, so we spent much of it on the pool deck reading and watching the water. Pretty much a good relaxing day. We also saw the show in the theater (Twice Charmed) and had dinner.

Our third day was in port in Progresso, Mexico. The one thing about Progresso is that it has a pier that is 4 miles long! I believe it to be the longest pier in the world. Yes, a shuttle was provided.

This was another nice (but humid) day. We went ashore for some shopping then spent much of the afternoon on the pool deck, again reading.

My husband even took a few turns on the AquaDunk! You stand at the top of a slide and the floor drops out to send you speeding down. He only rode it six times, because at our age, going up several flights of stairs over and over again can get tiring. He did say that each time felt like the first. You never know when that floor is going to drop, so the excitement never goes away.

This night was also pirate night and the fireworks at sea. I always enjoy seeing the fireworks. No, it's not as big as those you see on land, but hey, it is fireworks and in the middle of the Gulf!

The fourth day, had lousy weather. It was cold and cloudy and even rained some (every night was cloudy, too, so we didn't get to see any stars). Most of our time was spent inside. We decided to take advantage of some of the classes offered on board, including towel folding.

Below are some of the towels folded by our stateroom attendant (the pirate one was on pirate night):

We were taught a few folds in the class (my husband watched and didn't try any). We were able to keep the last one we did to take to our stateroom to show it off to our stateroom attendant. Here's my attempt at a monkey:

I always enjoy a cruise, even if the weather is not good. To me it is the most relaxing type of vacation. I know not everyone enjoys it like I do, but my husband and I call a cruise our favorite vacation - and we really enjoy the days at sea!

This was the first time we didn't have a balcony in our stateroom. We decided that since it was a short cruise, we would see how well we liked having just a porthole view. If we would have had nice weather throughout the trip, I would have preferred a balcony to sit out on. However, I'm glad we didn't this time, since the weather was cold for more than half the time. We were able to spend some of our time sitting in the stateroom reading and looking out the porthole from the couch. If we had a balcony, it wouldn't have been as easy to see the water from the couch.

Here's the view we had:

Oh, yeah, my husband decided to buy a coffee in Cove Cafe on the ship, and here's what it looked like:

I've only taken one cruise and I enjoyed the experience. Its something I would like to do again.

That's why it's our favorite vacation - relaxing!

I've never been on a big cruise ship and am not sure I'd like it. I do like the ocean and ships and sailing though. I didn't even know that Disney offered cruises.

Your monkey is cute!

Not everyone enjoys a cruise, especially if they get seasick. However, there are remedies for that.

My brother-in-law doesn't like being confined to a ship and doesn't like the limited time in ports - he's more of a "let's wing it" type when it comes to vacation. My sister, his wife, on the other hand is the opposite.

This is Disney Cruise Line's 25th year.

Thanks. I was pleasantly surprised by my "skill" in creating that thing. Yes, I followed the directions and watched as it was being explained, but things don't always come out the same as the expert's does.
