It is a statue of the revolutionary reform pioneer Jan Hus, often referred to as Hus Plaza. Because it is the most famous square in Prague, it is often called the Prague Square.
The Old Town Square is located between Wenceslas Square and the Charles Bridge and is often crowded with tourists during the summer months. The surrounding buildings are diverse in style, including the Gothic architecture of the Tyne Church and the Baroque St. Nicholas Church. In the center of the square is the statue of Hus, the pioneer of the Czech religious reform, Jan Hus, who was executed by the Holy See in Konstanz against the Roman Pope for selling redemption vouchers, thus detonating the Huss War. The statue was established on July 6, 1915, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of Jan Hus.
The Old Town Square is not only a popular meeting place, but also for New Year celebrations, holiday markets and protests. Sometimes, ice hockey and football games will be shown on the big screen, attracting a large number of fans.
