Platteville is a small city in Wisconsin, about 70 miles from Madison. My wife spent her teenage time there. When we visit Madison, sometimes stop by there. She becomes nostalgic by seeing her middle school and high school. I love to go there for different reason. Platteville is known for having world's largest letter "M" written using whitewashed stones on Platte Mound.
It was created by the engineering students of University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1936 to represent Platteville Miners. Read more about the M from wikipedia.
I visited there twice. Two years ago when I first visited, it was covered by snow. I could not able to see the letter. But last month right before the winter when I when there, I saw the big "M" for the first time. It's a cool thing to see.
You can climb up to the top of the hill and can see wide open fields of Platteville. It feels great just to stand there.
First time where I visited, it was extreme cold and the ice was very slippery. I was regretting right after half way.
But hey, I did not quit. I reached to the top finally. It was worth the effort when I saw wide open Platteville covered by beautiful white snow.
