Preparing for our trip

in #trip2 years ago

I am very excited.

We are preparing for our trip. We will be leaving Thursday night and starting out our journey when my husband gets off work. We will be stopping in Illinois over night. We are playing it by ear and weather on if we are stopping at Crater Diamond Park in Arkansas on the way out west or on the way back home. But we finally decided what we are going to attempt on this trip. We are going to travel route 66 (either on the way to the Petrified Forest and Grand Canyon or on the way back home) it is going to depend on if we go to Crater Diamond Park first or not. As I was writing this, I decided this is going to be weather based, check the weather, stupid LOL. We will be going Route 66 on the way there and coming back on the interstate to visit Diamond Crater Park. As if we go when we leave we will find 40 degree temps and rain. If we wait till the end of our trip we will find temps sunny and in the low 70s.

We will not be traveling the full length of Route 66

We have no desire to visit California at the moment nor really the time with all we do plan to do on this trip. And we are not traveling all the way through Illinois. Because the closest access point is 3 hours away and if we go the starting point of Route 66 it would add about 10 hours all together to our trip and we would rather spend that time exploring the Grand Canyon or have that extra time digging for diamonds.

I am really excited about going on an adventure with my husband

We have our route and a couple of things we are going to do while on our trip, but we really are going to play it by ear, we see something that peaks our interest, we might detour and do something completely different than what we think we loosely have planned. I mean after all Mardi Gras is about to happen on our Anniversary. But I am not really into big crowds and especially not into big crowds since this pandemic has hit.

Any sites along Route 66 you think we must see?

Beside Uranus in Missouri? Ironically they are opening a location near me. But I do plan to stop there and get some photos because when they rebrand Good's Candy into Uranus Indiana, I plan to take photos of the rebranding and remodel of the place. They are keeping Good's recipes (thankfully) and adding what they sell in Missouri here. Their slogans are funny af. One is "We can pack your fudge tightly in a box or loosely in a bag at Uranus" yes it is childish but still funny.
