A Smart Media Token (SMT) is a native digital asset on the Steem blockchain that can be quickly launched by anyone to help monetize online content and create incentives to encourage desired user behavior.
Ned Scott, the founder and CEO of Steemit has today announced that he has created a white paper to look at the possibility of launching smart media tokens in 2018.

The company which launched in 2016 and has quickly grown into a popular publishing platform which uses blockchain technology and a cryptocurrency called ‘Steem’.

The platform is gained worldwide exposure for bringing people great travel stories but it is not just the content that has gained the company so much exposure. Steemit provides writers with an outlet to write about their travels while at the same time allowing them to turn that skill into Steem, which they can convert into real money to help pay for their next vacation.

A spokesman for Steemit said: “We welcome writers to write about anything to do with travel.”

Recently an anonymous article also appeared on Steemit suggesting that China, South Korea and Russia should take over North Korea and wipe it off the map, just as Austria, Prussia and Russia partitioned Poland in the 1700’s. The article is from a would-be political pundit with the moniker ‘theunpundit’ https://steemit.com/north/@theunpundit/the-partition-of-north-korea It remains to be seen whether would-be policy pushers will be successful in promoting their ideas via the Steemit platform, especially while maintaining anonymity.

“With smart media tokens on the horizon, it could be that such people will instead use the blockchain technology on their own websites rather write articles on Steemit. Publishers could then earn money in the same way that Steemit contributors do, thus monetizing both the content and the community. This would also offer an alternative to pay-walls and subscription fees for news platforms and websites,” explained a spokesman

Instead of writers posting travel articles on article sharing sites and getting nothing in return, this platform provides people with a real income.

The smart media tokens could be beneficial to many types of people from those that have their own website, forum, as well as those who like to blog. Webmasters could install comment widgets and sub-community moderators and managers could add more incentive for people to leave meaningful comments and to interact with the content they read.
