Dear Community,
We have recently been made aware of a serious case of identity theft involving our podcast. An impersonator has been fraudulently using our name, branding, and imagery to invite people to fake interviews in an attempt to infect them with malware. This is a serious matter, and we want to ensure that everyone in our community is informed and protected.
What’s Happening?
A scammer has been approaching individuals—particularly in programming and crypto-related groups—via Telegram, claiming to represent our podcast. They invite people to be guests on our show and schedule an initial meeting. However, just before the meeting begins, they change the meeting link to a malicious site that forces users to download malware disguised as a communication app (such as WeChat). This malware is likely intended to steal credentials, wallets, and other sensitive data.
How to Identify the Scam
The impersonator is using the email [email protected] to schedule meetings.
They may change the meeting link at the last minute to a suspicious download.
They falsely claim that special software is required to speak with our team.
They reach out primarily through Telegram in crypto and programming-related groups.
How We Actually Contact Guests
We never invite guests via Telegram or ask them to install any third-party software for a meeting. If we reach out for an interview, we always:
Use our official email addresses and social media accounts.
Invite guests to our Discord community for discussions and pre-show preparations.
Use legitimate and widely accepted communication platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, or Discord (never requiring external downloads from unknown sources).
What You Can Do
Stay vigilant. If someone contacts you claiming to represent our podcast, verify by reaching out to us through our official channels.
Do not download or install anything from unknown sources.
Report suspicious accounts. If you encounter this scammer, report their account and alert others in your community.
Spread the word. Share this warning with anyone who might be targeted.
We take this matter very seriously and are actively working to prevent further damage. If you have any doubts or have been contacted by someone suspicious, please reach out to us directly through our official channels.
Stay safe,
Team CBRS
When you get people who are impersonating you, then you know you made it!! 😃
Watch out, peeps, and don't fall for scammers!
You just proved what I was thinking. I guess we are doing something good if peeps try to impersonate us.. But's it is a wake up call, to be very attentive with what you open and who you are talking to :)
Woo.. is this for real? Will stay cautious and also, this also proves you are doing really well Cold! !BBH !pimp
Well, at least it's not my picture and name they using 🤣 It's the one from @artakush 🤣
Oh yeah? Let me change this xDdD
Hahahahaha 😁
😅 poor work
I've seen some impersonation like this elsewhere and some will fall for it. Scary stuff. I think Hive is actually fairly good to identify yourself as it's hard to fake things like reputation score and followers.
It is, and we never know if they will keep on doing this and how many emails can we expect from other saying they got scammed.
Wow! Thanks for the Heads-up! Stay safe everybody!
People with bad intentions don't waste any time, so you can't be too careful.
