Introduction

My name is Ebixy Ebi Laffin and I have a page on Facebook where I promote open source applications.

When I joined Steemit in January 2018, the orientation I had was "come let us build a free and sustainable ecosystem", one that would be of immense benefit to humanity. We had people from almost all works of life who were contributing in one way or the other.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) was not left out in the revolution, suddenly, everyone had a platform to share their knowledge and opinion with the world. This attracted people from all levels of educational qualifications; from novice to enthusiast to experts.

Another interesting thing about SteemStem is that it supports multiple languages and sub-communities These languages or communities include Spanish, German, French, Italian, Nigeria etc.

All the languages had a team of moderators who access the quality of contributions and rewards those that are qualified. This help to maintain the quality of articles and prevent abuse and plagiarism. By my personal assessment, most of the articles on SteemStem are worthy of publication in reputable journals.

Targetting and Audience

Women and Africa, in general, have a stereotype towards STEM. They have a mindset that STEM is for the male gender. This has caused a shortfall of women and Africans involved or pursuing a career in STEM. There is an ongoing movement from world bodies like the United Nations for the promotion of STEM among women and Africans.

SteemStem can be another opportunity for women to learn and express themselves from the comfort of their computer and mobile devices. The targetting was focused on African women aged 18 to 35 who were interested in STEM.

The number of African women who are interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at the same time is just about 1.9 million.

Ad message

The ad message was a brief and concise explanation of what STEM and SteemStem are all about. With a link to the official SteemStem website.

Bidding Strategy and Results

In all campaigns I have done on Facebook that includes both male and female, the females always show less interest. In this case, it was only the females that were targeted. There was still no engagement, the only link clicks.

For objective, I selected the 'send people to your website'. In the next promotion, I intend to select engagement with other parameters maintained to see the result. The audience was large, so I increased the budget to about $20. The ad ran for 7 days.
