Utopian Rules Update #11: Critical Update to Utopian Rules

in #utopian-io7 years ago (edited)

As Utopian.io grows and evolves, we must adjust policies and guidelines to maximize our collective contribution to the Open Source movement and community. Today, we are publishing an updated and highly detailed list of rules and guidelines for submitting contributions to Utopian.

It is crucial that you read the all the rules applicable to your specialization category before making a submission to Utopian.io

Notable Changes

In addition to extensive clarification of all existing rules and examples for approved contributions, we’ve also added some rules that have significant impact on the criteria for submission approval.

  • Due to potential legal repercussions, accepted submissions to the Graphics, Visibility and Copywriting categories must include proof of project owner request for work done, either via Utopian task request (Influencer task request) or other verifiable form of approval and encouragement on behalf of the project owner.

  • Submissions to the Visibility category must now include proof of engagement as per metric set in the rules. These metrics may change in future rule updates.

  • Submissions of contributions to repositories that contain no code (like gitbooks, content repositories, etc.) will be rejected (in most cases).

  • Utopian.io now demands tighter integration with github both for the submission and approval of contributions.

The Moderation Team & You

The role of the rules is to provide contributors with guidelines, but are in no way a replacement for common sense. To ensure that the contributions rewarded by Utopian.io are valuable and beneficial to the open source community, moderators and supervisors may reject submissions of contributions they deem as having little to no notable value.

Work in Progress

As we continue to work with CrowdIn on streamlining and optimizing the process of proofing translations for open source projects on the platform, the translations category remains closed for contributions.

Utopian.io is a work in progress, growing and evolving as more contributors (but also scammers) find their way to the platform. The new and updated rules should make it easier for valid contributions to get rewards and minimize abuse of the platform. However, these rules will be changed and adjusted in the future as Utopian.io continues to revolutionize the open source economy with your help.

We look forward to reading your thoughts and insights on the new rules published so we can continue improving them to empower the Open Source community worldwide.

I think, the moderators need to be first get accustomed to these changes. Last time I submitted an entry it was rejected saying it did not follow rules, and I had to question putting the rules, after which it was approved.

The general rule is that contributions must, first and foremost, contribute obvious VALUE to an Open Source project. That is a very broad definition, so we added the rules and guidelines to help stir contributors in the right direction and make it easier for moderators to recognize when value exists and when it does not.

We are working hard to ensure our moderation team approves only the contributions worthy or rewards, and has all the tools and instructions to execute the Utopian vision of rewarding quality contributions to Open Source projects.

every day utopian grows more and more. the update of the rules seems excellent to me. although I believe that you are every time they are limiting more the new taxpayers and even to the already existing ones. keep on working to improve the page, but always have in mind the community that gives them its support, greetings.

Thanks for your feedback, even though I could not actually understand what you meant by "new taxpayers"?

greetings, i mean new people with talent who want to contribute in utopian, talking about graphic category.

👍

I think this is a really good update! Even if the platform will lose some users, those users will be mostly scammers, and if somebody is really good at something and really want to contribute to a project in whatever category, they can still do it.
As long as money rule this world, there will always be scammers, this update will keep away some of them, but not all of them, they always find a way.
Keep it up @utopian-io, I'm waiting for the translation category to come back!

very interesting project is it linked with steemit accounts?

Just one correction -- Freedom is a disabled mining rig, not an active witness. There is no point voting for it.

proof of engagement as per metric set in the rules

Will someone elavorate this? I am not clear what it meant to say.

There is elaboration in the rules on the the utopian website. Basically, you need to show engagement percentages, not only views.

translations will never reach a quality of excellence until there are moderators who completely master the translated language and are good translators ... each language must have a proofreader / moderator trained in that same language, to do its review.

Submissions to the Visibility category must now include proof of engagement as per metric set in the rules. These metrics may change in future rule updates.

This is for visibility category I guess. I am not clear about what it means to contributors.

I recommend you read the rules in full - the engagement metrics are there. Any marketer knows views only mean something in video ads. So we now request proof of engagement on campaigns to ensure they are effective and not randomly executed by amateurs unfamiliar with online advertising strategies.

My understanding is that you would have to use analytics tools to show the exact impact of your visibility efforts. Most social media channels have their own analytics tools and digital marketers use these as a proof of success for the campaigns. I wonder if someone has developed a steemit.tool to get that data?

As we continue to work with CrowdIn on streamlining and optimizing the process of proofing translations for open source projects on the platform, the translations category remains closed for contributions.

I really appreciate that you are still working on the optimizing and streamlining the process of proofing translations. Cannot wait to work as a translator/proofreader on utopian.io again. Keep up your great work! You have all my support.

I didn't understand about Utopian task request (Influencer task request).

What is @utopian-io all about? Still I voted for it. :)

What is Utopian-io and How to contribute?

a little bit old but you will get the idea.

Thank you. Done reading on it. :)

Welcome done utopan-io for updating us all in the new rules and guideline....Thanks.

☺ ☺ ☺ i understand some and trying to comprehend some.

first - sire @elear i mean no offence
i created a project that promotes the steem ecosystem, How?
By running a social media campaign for selected steem related websites but made it a mandatory to promote steemit for every month in order to create social awareness to social media user, we are planning to take this campaign to other social platforms like facebook, instagram etc, but we are currently base on Twitter for now until we get a full community back up support.

After our campaigns or when its on going, we make reports about the outcomes, efforts, target's , etc
The rewards from utopian-io is used to reward those who participates on promoting the steem ecosystem as the project has no supports yet most of this participants are mostly minnows finding their ways on the steem blockchain and are rewarded by participating with the utopian.io reward scheme, doing our own part with the #promo-steem curriculum.

yeah we are done with the steemit campaign and our next campaign for a steem platform is Utopian-io as announced on the platform account @project-atlas

But with The new updated utopian-io rules

must include proof of project owner request for work done, either via Utopian task request (Influencer task request)

Are we to take permissions from the project owners or its only when the project owners request such task from the community???

we really need your Replies.
Thank you.

Thank you for your reply! The goal of Utopian is NOT to fund the marketing of steem or related websites. It is intended to encourage valuable contributions to open source projects. If there is an open source project on steem that needs promoting - contact the project owner and have them create a task request in the Influencer category requesting for the activity.

For example, busy.org is an open source project. If the project owner is interested in having the platform promoted, he can very easily create a task request for influencers and get the visibility he wants and needs for his project on whatever platform he wants it.

We cannot allow for unsolicited online promotions of brands or products without the permission of whoever owns the trademarks and copyright for the logos, brand name and other such content. So simply get a verifiable OK from the project owner, and we're all covered legally.

So simply get a verifiable OK from the project owner, and we're all covered legally.

now i understand where all this are coming from, well its great though.
i quite agree with the legal terms of trying to get the project owners approval.
Its well.

Good work utopian.io!

The more valuable your contributions are on utopian, the more valuable the utopian platform will be as it continues to grow.

Hello @utopian-io I'm a newcomer in steemit. I want to join you, please tell me how?

I've been putting some of our code into our Github as I would like to start utilising the power of the Utopian community to assist with some of the work, but I've put it in a private github repository for now, because it contains sensitive data. Can we still make task requests, and then grant access to on an as-required basis, or do all repositories have to be public ones, not private ones?

Many thanks in advance.

If the rules are tightened, we demand more vote percentage to our contribution.

Making demands, are we? :)

Thanks for the information,
Hopefully the new regulation could advance the future of steemit

great post enjoys meeting you @utopian-io
