It is over for another year. Yes, Veterans Day. The day we honor all veterans of the United States (US) military forces. Marine Corps, Navy, Army, Air Force, Space Force, National Guard and last but not least the Reserve Forces.
Along with @guiltyparties, @wesphilbin, @enginewitty, @coinjoe and many more I could name, this day is very special to us. It is the day that we are recognized for volunteering to be the Warriors of our Nation !
Writing this post is meant to educate the uninitiated, i.e., civilians. You see we have three days on the US calender to honor those who have worn the uniform:
Armed Forces Day: Gratitude for those currently serving in the Armed Forces.
Memorial Day: Honors fallen service members.
Veterans Day: Honors all that once served in the Armed Forces.
For many in the US these are just fall holidays when they get a three day weekend (probably paid) where they can barbecue and party. That is fine. I just say: Understand what you are celebrating.
This is my combination Veterans Day/Marine Corps message for 2024. To all of my fellow Veterans, whether friend or foe, thank you for your service to your prospective Nations. For my brothers and sisters who wore the EGA and are destined to guard those streets of gold; Happy belated Marine Corps Birthday! We are and always will be Semper Fidelis (always faithful). The UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS, OORAH!
