There's a scene at the temple where Jesus turns over the tables of the money changers in anger and kicks them out. I think that's what he's referring to. The New Testament isn't that lengthy if you want to read through it again. It's been awhile since I read either, but I don't remember the "pay your taxes" part. I remember the 10% tithe to the church though. Is that what you're referring to?
