Share Our World: Habitat for Humanity

in #volunteer28 days ago

I have been spending a lot of time volunteering with Habitat and working to build April's house. This is the second house I have been able to help build.

I have rearranged my work schedule and now volunteer on Wednesday and Saturday mornings!

We started in November and I want to share the highlights from the past 6 months.

I was able to start at the very beginning and my first task was to staple and nail.

I brought my friend Kristen to come work with me one day.

I really enjoy building walls. Look at the progress.

Working on the 2nd story floors.

Putting up the outside deck area.

Framing and putting up the walls on the 2nd floor. Oh and you will notice that the core crew has yellow habitat shirts. I now have one too!

Below are mix a photos from December, including the homeowner, April.

I feel much more confident using the power tools. It seems like there is always a new tool to learn to use.

Caulking, installing door knobs, installing kitchen cabinets

The Crew
I feel very blessed that my first day going to a Habitat site was the first day of the build for Stephanie's house and the crew that was working on it were men that were so kind and welcoming.

Girl power!! Go girl!! Show the guys we can do it as well!!!

For sure! :)

That's so cool that you are doing this! I actually know a couple of local people — both single mothers — who have benefited from getting a Habitat home and are doing quite well; nice to see a timeline like this of everything that lies behind it all.

=^..^=

Thanks. It is so great getting to work along side and get to know the homeowner and their families.

Wooden houses are very beautiful and eco-friendly. Your area is very beautiful

Building a house is not easy, a lot of work is done on the project, it takes a lot of time, and then a beautiful building is ready, everyone is working very hard.

I believe it must really be so tedious and I am so sure it is because of the love and passion you have for this right. Glad you are also showing the men that what a man can do, we woman can actually do much more better than that.

Have you ever tried constructing a bigger building before?

Hi @precab no, these houses are the first time I have ever built and or used power tools.
