The Old Dog Asks: Can You Trust Wine Label Descriptions?

in #winelast year (edited)

When I read the description for a bottle of wine it often makes me laugh. To be honest it often seems to be a made-up word salad.

I Saw This Wine From Romania The Other Day and Had to Try it!

The wine label didn’t have a description on it so when a friend of mine wrote and asked how it was here was my answer:

Quite aromatic with a wildflower perfume and hints of wild berries.

There were also accents of a clean spring air after the rain as if from a meadow at the edge of a pine forest in the fog.

On the tongue it left an aftertaste of smoked bacon made sweet by tree sap syrup cooked over an open fire.

What Do You Think?

  • Are those wine label description just made up?
  • What's the coolest/weirdest description you've ever seen?
  • Who do you think writes them?
  • Would you like to be paid to write the descriptions?

Until next time,

I'm skeptical of all labels on products/merchandise sold.

You are wise!

I live in Romania, I have an uncle who works at one of the most renowned wineries in the country and he told us how the wine that ends up bottled is made. All I have to say is it involves a bit of "real wine", some water, and a pill giving the aroma. It's tough to find "pure wine" these days unless you buy it from some old farmers who are still playing by the book.

Good to know!
