Conversations with a Bestselling Author and Blockchain consultant

In our 2nd episode of the TV Talk-show Hard Fork's - special series Women In Blockchain, we met and chatted -up with an International bestselling author of 4 blockchain books, Ms. Debajani Mohanty who has been instrumental in driving the Indian Blockchain agenda in the global Fintech community. Debajani is also an acclaimed fintech consultant, mentor, faculty and keynote speaker at many national and international symposiums and conferences.

Our queries

We had thought about myriad topics to touch upon and with Debajani it was to be fintech, stablecoins, etc and with the limited time we had on the episode this is exactly what we touched upon. The following are some of the questions we asked her on the show.

  • Why is the world so divided on cryptocurrency/asset?
  • Is Government built stablecoin going to be a thing of the future?
  • Among the so many blockchains, which one holds a lot of promise?
  • What can be done to bring more women advocates in this space?

The Conversations

We had an intriguing conversation with Debajani. She is someone who has had a fantastic exposure on both sides of the spectrum, the private blockchain as well as public, open architectures. Hence, Debajani’s knowledge provided a deep insight into many subjects:

  • You can uproot the word ‘fake’ from the dictionary with blockchain — no fake identity, no fake document
  • It gives an opportunity like never before — discreet organizations can share their data and reduce the friction that was there earlier.
  • Stablecoins are a good concept but we need mechanisms for constant auditing to check whether there are enough backup resources as are the number of stablecoins in circulation.
  • We cannot stop anybody from creating his own crypto-coin (in a private/ permissioned network) as there is no regulation around it, however, if we want a crypto-currency to replace fiat, there will surely be a lot of resistance and opposition.
  • Women on a break due to some reason or the other should know that blockchain is a field where nobody is going to ask for experience.
  • The number of women pursuing technology is anyway less and it reduces further in blockchain tech and is only 3–4% at the CXO level.
  • The women who are already pursuing blockchain as a career should mentor other women in this field.
