How Much Money Can You Actually Make Writing on Medium

My 6 Months Review
2020 was the weirdest year for everyone because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Most of us spent the whole year inside our homes. Many people found time to try new things. During the lockdown, I started learning new skills. I learned Python programming language because I wanted to switch my career. In between learning Python, I found out about Medium from a YouTuber name: Shelby Church. She is a tech and lifestyle YouTuber living in Los Angeles. After watching her video, I made my account on Medium and started thinking about what should I write. I knew that I am going to write about Apple but I had no idea where to start. After three days of thinking, I made the decision to write a fix for a common problem faced by many Apple iPhone users. I wrote the article and published it without having any knowledge about publications. The next morning I received a message on my article from Nassos Michas. Nassos is the creator of Mac O'Clock. A publication that is focused on stories related to Apple. Nassos asked me:
"Great story! We'd love to include it in our Medium publication "Mac O'Clock" (medium.com/macoclock). You retain all rights and revenue from your story."
I was shocked and immediately said YES! After my first article; I started writing about Apple on Mac O'Clock. I tried to write on other topics a few times but didn't get much attention. So I stuck to write about Apple only. It's been 6 months since I am writing on Medium and I think now it is the perfect time to share my writing and earning experience with all of you.

My 6 months of writing and earning experience on Medium
Let's start by discussing how anyone can write on Medium. The medium allows everyone to write about anything that they want. Medium offers users subscriptions to become a member for a $5 monthly or $50 yearly fee. With a Medium membership, access to "exclusive content, audio narrations of popular stories, and an improved bookmark section" is enabled. The Medium Partner Program is Medium's compensation program for its writers. Partner Program writers are paid based on how deeply Medium members read their work. As members read longer, writers earn more. Medium distributes a portion of each member's subscription fee to the writers they read most each month.

During my 6 months journey, I wrote a total of 100 articles. 225 people followed me on Medium. This is a big achievement for me. The highest views I got on an article are 25,000 with 18,500 reads. But I only earned $13.83. Why? Because 98% of views I got were from Google search and 2% views I got from Medium readers. This shows that you can only earn a certain amount of money from your article when someone from the Medium partner program reads your article. But don't worry you can still earn a good amount from Medium. Let me break down my monthly earnings and views.
I wrote my first article on 6th July 2020. I got 21 views on that article till today and only earned $0.01. During my first month, I wrote 13 articles and got a total of 596 views, 365 reads, and 31 fans. I earned a total of $6.99 in the month of July.

During my second month, I wrote 18 articles and got a total of 1970 views, 1125 reads, and 91 fans. I earned a total of $39.37 in the month of August.

During my third month, I wrote 21 articles and got a total of 8695 views, 4959 reads, and 208 fans. I earned a total of $125.48 in the month of September.

During my fourth month, I wrote 20 articles and got a total of 16,544 views, 9614 reads, and 117 fans. I earned a total of $165.40 in the month of October.

During my fifth month, I wrote 15 articles and got a total of 17,758 views, 10,560 reads, and 140 fans. I earned a total of $132.02 in the month of November.

During my sixth month, I wrote 13 articles and got a total of 19,037 views, 11,756 reads, and 162 fans. I earned a total of $133.96 in the month of December.

Conclusion
I started with zero views and now I am getting 18,000 to 20,000 views per month. That's a big achievement for me. I wrote this article for those who want to write on Medium but they don't know where to start or they are wondering if they will get any views. So you can see my answer now. Maybe you can write better than me and can get more views and earnings. There are many writers who are making a living from writing on Medium. So if they can do it, why not you. I kept myself writing about Apple only because I have a special place in my heart for Apple products since my childhood. You can write about anything that you love to talk about. It will take some time in the beginning but after some time you will find an audience who love to read your articles.
I know it is hard for many people to write one article every day and you don't need to do that. Take time to write a good quality article in a week or 10 days. Good quality articles always find their readers. The big secret of success on the internet is consistency. Stay consistent and do what you like. You will definitely achieve your goals.
I hope you will find motivation from my article and start writing on the medium from today. Best of luck writers. If you are writing for a few months now, please share your writing and earning experience with Medium in the response section below. I would love to read them.

@hope777 Check out this article. You are a writer. Maybe this will help you.

Hi, interesting. Glad you got your foot in the door on medium.
I must try and stick to Hive and build an audience here again. It's not easy as I know. At this stage my HP is so little my vote is not even worth 1 cent yet.

Great analysis!
I was wondering about that question.

I think you’ll find Hive more financially and socially rewarding if you show the same persistence you’ve showed with Medium.

I earn more on Hive monthly from authorship and curation than you are earning with far fewer articles published.

If I had time to publish at the rate you are doing I’d probably be earning ~$400 per month from Hive & Leo

Wow seriously. I need to try Hive and Leo. Can you please share Leo details with me.
Thank you so much for sharing with me.

If your post is related to finance then you can put a "leofinance" tag on the post and you'll earn LEO as well as Hive. This is true for other communities too but LEO is the most valuable.

You can also post and curate on the Leo Finance front end. https://leofinance.io/
This uses your Hive login.
