Goldylocks gasped and her hand rushed to her mouth. Okomo looked at me and then the direction of the scream. Even Hammy’s eyes seemed to grow a little then shrink.
Then we heard non-stop barking.
Goldylocks started to breath fast. “That’s Hairry! That’s Hairry! OH HAIRRY I’M COMING! DON’T WORRY HAIRRY I’LL BE RIGHT THERE!” she turned to us. “That’s my dog and he sounds scared! We have to hurry!” And then Goldylocks began to run, with the rest of us close behind. I quickly passed Goldylocks. My grandma was in danger, and I had to save her no matter what cost. I had walked from the city all the way through Grandale park and through the woods behind it to deliver her cookies, and not even a wolf could stand in the way of me giving her these treats.
“Guys!” Hammy said between huffs. “You’re killing me! Can’t we stop and rest a little?” easy for him to say. There was nothing he loved on the line.
I ran until my legs burned, the pain was getting unbearable, but I knew it would sting harder if I stopped running from all my built horse-power, so I kept on, no matter how bad I ached.
I saw the clearing coming up. I saw the point of Grandma’s cabin rooftop in the sky standing tall among the trees. Almost there.
We made it, and I was almost dizzy when I stopped running. I put my hands on my head and stood tall, trying to receive as much air as possible.
Goldy’s dog was growling at the cabin when we arrived, and when he turned and saw her coming, he ran to her faster than we ran here. The dog jumped on her and knocked her down, his fluffy tail wagging hundreds of times per second.
“Hairry! I love you, sweet dog, and I’ll never lose you again.” Goldy whispered into the dog's neck and gave him a tight hug.
I heard my Grandma scream from inside the cabin and then a loud WHOOP as if someone or something big had fallen.
“GRANDMA!” I yelled and looked at my friends rapidly. “We have to do something! She’s in there with that terrible wolf Rotty!”
They all just looked at me blankly and shocked.
“You know what!? Screw it! You guys can do whatever you want! But that’s my Grandma in there, and I won’t let her die, even if you all will!” I whispered viciously. I felt my eyes make a layer of tears.
“No, we’ll help you, but what do you want us to do!?” Okomo asked me quietly. I had a feeling we all thought it best not to let Rotty know we were here, though he probably already knew due to our mad yelling earlier.
I thought for a second but had nothing. “You should know, he’s your uncle!” I yelled at him. But it was clear. My ‘friends’ had nothing. They were just like every other friend I’d had in my lifetime. You give them what they want, and then they ditch or betray you. I gave them my time, some of grandma’s cookies, even got Goldylocks back to her dog. But they had done nothing in return for me. Once again, I had played a fool and got tricked into doing stuff for people. Now Grandma was probably about to get eaten by a big hungry wolf and these no-goods didn’t even volunteer to help me try and save her.
It got quiet.
I heard creaking in the cabin. Then snapping wood.
“I. Hate. You. All.” I whispered to them. And with nothing more than my basket, I ran into the cabin.
It was already a bad sign that the back door was open and one of the door’s hinges had been broken, leaving it slant, but the fact that the kitchen I came into had broken glass and fruit preserves on the floor made me think things had been worse than I thought.
Was grandma dead? Had I waited too long?
