Chapter 79
As the Advent season was getting under way, mischief was not just afoot, it was stampeding. If the Death Star was to hold the world hostage, then it must be proven to work. A test was needed.
CLOSED UNTIL DECEMBER 15TH FINAL RESTORATION
The sign was posted at intervals outside a cordon that surrounded the Great Pyramid. Tourists ogled the blinding white casing stones that now covered the exterior all the way to the peak. They watched with fascination as Richter supervised the finishing touches to get his machine operational.
The Germans are rightfully renowned for their engineering, and it was on full display at Giza. The convex design of the four faces was clearly visible to anyone with eyes to see. It was placed with such precision that even the mainstream press was openly ridiculing Egyptologists who claimed it was due to a random collapse of the structure at some time in the past. Some even tried to claim it wasn’t there at all, and they were hailed as complete idiots in newspapers and on TV all over the world.
“Easy! Easy! That’s it.”
He had engineered a contraption that would position the capstone precisely into place. Since it was practically weightless, it wasn’t that difficult but the crowd watching and the old school archaeologists had no idea. They marveled at Richter’s contraption that lifted the capstone, swung it over the sloped sides and suspended it directly over the tip. While the lay public marveled, conventional archaeologists responded as they usually do, by making stuff up to explain what they cannot explain.
“Wunderbar!”
The crowd was seized by a loud, sub-bass hum as the capstone settled into place, almost as if it were a Lego block. Enthusiastic oohs and ahhhs arose from the onlookers, who were getting their final glimpse of the powerful behemoth before them before a great wall of sandbags around the exterior was completed. The purpose of these sandbags will be revealed to the unsuspecting reader in a later chapter.
Richter conferred with Kammler, Bormann, and some of the gray-haired old men below the entrance. The traditional tourist entrance through the Robbers’ Tunnel that had been dug by Caliph Al Ma’mun had been restored to its original state by the Nazis, so they were using the original 'entrance', several courses above the Robbers' tunnel.
Richter produced a small stone tablet for the old men to see.
“This is very ancient. Modern archaeologists would probably date it to Sumer, but in fact, it is millennia older. It is over 3.2 million years old! You see the writing here, and a geometric design. The writing refers to some place in Central America. It’s hard to translate exactly, but the late scholar who accomplished it for us, God rest his soul, thinks it may be the Isthmus of Panama. The geometric design is the grating pattern we need to create in the King’s chamber before pulsing the graser through it. I’ll need you gentlemen to return to the safety of your hotel and watch the news for breaking stories on earthquakes in that region. The infrasonic harmonic resonances here will undoubtedly cause local tremors, but there’s no need to worry. They won’t be serious.”
The gray-haired old men murmured excitedly, wished Herr Doctor Richter success, and then departed.
