Hi There !
In case you've noticed ... or maybe not, my account has been in "power down" for some weeks now. Soon it will be powered all the way down except for a few dregs.
Why ?!?!?!?!
(I put some food porn here to make you hungry because what other kind of photos would you display while talking about power down?? This is a replica of a breakfast sandwich I experienced on a beach trip to the Outer Banks a few years back. It is ciabatta bread, toasted on the inside, with a generous layer of cream cheese and a LOAD of bacon ! I know we all like different things, but to my likes.... this was sinfully delicious. This is my version I made after the trip, because I simply wanted more. Believe me when I tell you that I did not exaggerate the amount of bacon that was on the original in my version. Oh yum ! )
About 3 months ago, for the second time in a very short time, I read that yet another of the exchanges?... where lots of folks used to get their hive out as cash into their real world was not going to handle American transactions for the such because of the fear of the rumors that our Political Mafia Leaders (yes, that's what I think about them right now) were going to change some laws, rules... whatever.... in a way that would affect them? negatively? I won't claim to know the technical way to explain it all, but I understood what it meant.
(Very chocolatey Devil's Food cake with some divine, pink butter creme frosting. I'd like a lick of that frosting on my finger right now.)
Now.... these US changes are things that "possibly" may happen....at least at the time and not something that has been put into place yet, however, it seemed some of the top ways folks used to take out money were no longer available.
(Bacon needs no explanation.... does it ??)
So I wondered.... who will leave America behind next? Will there soon be no way to access if wanted or needed?
(Cinnamon Buns ! These are not totally homemade. They come out of the dairy case. They are in a tube and at one end is a container of frosting. You pop open the can, pull them apart, bake them and then add the frosting while they are warm, causing them to have a very sweet glaze. They are only a bit special to me, because my folks bought these occasionally when I was growing up and so now they taste like childhood. Childhood tastes really good to my memories.)
Now... I have never taken anything out of my Hive. When I signed on in 2018 the Hive Boom had come and gone. The price was around 82 Cents and a lot of folks had deserted because that was too low... ha ha .... so obviously I didn't come here only for the money.
(Deep dish pepperoni pizza with onions...mmmmMMMMMMmmmmmm)
Two of my friends were here and had told me about it long before, but at first I was about to move from where I was living. I waited about a year to add internet access. I did have a mobile phone, but for real, I don't like one finger typing enough to do a post or anything like it from my phone, so it took me quite a while to ever come over. Finally I did hook up and sign on. Soon after, 82 cents would have been a BOOM... LOL.... and of course as you know it eventually got down to 20 cents and less for a very long time. Still.... I got to know some folks and some very nice people have supported me along the way.... for which I am VERY grateful.
One time I made a bunch of cupcakes for a party. These were just some of them. It was fun creating all the designs and with colorful frosting and sprinkles)
It's mostly been fun ! People always told me this couldn't disappear like some other places from the past where folks blogged or posted photos for money. I wasn't sure of that, but, ok. However, after I started seeing all these happenings, I thought, well it doesn't have to disappear to go bad if you lose all the options to turn some of the Hive that you have earned into cash if you ever wanted too. I had not planned on taking mine out any time soon, but if I wanted to one day, I wanted to feel assured that I could.
I was no longer feeling that.
(Pizza again?? Pizza deserves a 2nd round. This time pepperoni and jalapenos.. all hot with melty cheese. Yum yum ! )
So after I heard of the second place that would no longer be offering to help the US accounts get their money out, I thought.... well... wonder when all the rest will follow? At that point, I clicked on the power down and told myself, since it takes so long to power down, I will decide during that time what I want to do about it. I knew if I chose too, I could power it all back up immediately..... or I could then start research on what I would need to do to take my little earnings before there possibly became no way.
(Perfectly fried pork chops. I rarely fry anything these days, but occasionally I do !)
I've been around here for a long time and have seen so many ups and downs. When I first started here in 2016 there was a real stigma surrounding powering down, that it was some kind of betrayal and I had real guilt sometimes when I thought about doing it. Then I was told by a mentor that it's never a bad idea to take profit when you can. I've come to view the coins we earn by blogging here as our own to do with what we want. I hope you continue to write nevertheless!
This bear cycle has been drastically different, especially for us Americans. We all wished for mainstream adoption of crypto but many of us underestimated all of the negative aspects of it. Gary Gensler and the SEC have wreaked havoc for us here in the US with their lack of crypto regulatory clarity. A lot of people are calling for his resignation. For the sake of individual investors I hope that happens because I believe these recent shenanigans are nothing more than an attempt to suppress the crypto market until the big banks and Wall Street can accumulate the amount of coins they want. Gensler worked for Goldman Sachs for 18 years before becoming SEC chairman.
I'm also hoping that once Blackrock's BTC spot ETF is approved (hopefully later this year) we'll start to see more regulatory clarity and things will get better for us in the US. The price of Hive will hopefully rise with the next bull cycle after the BTC spot ETF approval. I think this will be the catalyst to spark the next big rise but I could be wrong. That said, there are no guarantees that Americans will ever gain more access to coins/exchanges than we have today. I don't think "the powers that be" want the average Joe/Jane to have a clear path to financial freedom and they want to control the crypto market as much as they can. These next couple of years will be interesting!
Hi there !
After everything powered down, I let it sit for a bit while I thought about it. Finally, I decided to take a chance and powered it all back up.
I'm wishy washy at times....LOL...
Thanks for stopping over and sharing your observations. I appreciate it.
I felt much the same. Being in the USA with little easy options, I felt it prudent to down size somewhat. However, I plan to keep posting and am at a comfortable level. I have used Ionomy with no problems so far. I would not take 100% out if you want to still post because of the RC credits needed for every action such as commenting and posting.
Mandala Exchange is another one. A Binance replica without the US regulation. VPN is required for us. Mine's always in Canada, never had an issue.
I have heard of lonomy and so far, that is the only one I have heard anyone mention, not on this post of course, but on other people's posts.
I understand what you are saying about leaving some for RC credits. I guess that will be something I need to think on too before I take any next action.
Psst. Hi. I was just telling young-man-videographer about Mandala Exchange.
Never heard of it.... well.... till now ! Thanks.
= }
Uh oh
"Mandala has provided a list of countries that the platform currently does not support. Here is a complete list:
USA"
"A big part of the crypto exchanges does not allow US citizens to use their platform due to the SEC (the Securities Exchange Commission). Mandala is one of those exchanges that are not available in the US since US citizens can not use Mandala exchange."
You have to use a VPN, sorry, I explained that to dude in your comment section. I leave mine in Canada. Never had an issue
Might as well take it out while you can. I don’t see hive going to the moon like some people think, but if you have only invested time into it… free money! 😄
The only time I have taken anything out was to buy things from other hive users. This seems the east route. Just sell it to people who want hive. I bought a massive silver bar from someone once. Cost me the equivalent of $100(ish) at the time. (But all money I just earned from yammering on… so free). Now the bar is worth $250!
"But all money I just earned from yammering on" THAT made me laugh!
As I have gotten older, my time seems to feel very valuable....LOL... ticking away, ticking away, but I do know what you mean.
Obviously, yours was a very sound investment.
Interesting thoughts Jacey. I took most of my Hive out around the time of the fork feeling disillusioned with how the community were handling it and turned it into BTC. I've not really considered things since then, been more focussed on managing my Splinterlands stuff.
If you take your Hive out will you keep posting?
Hi Gillian,
About whether or not I would keep on posting, that is another thing that I haven't made a decision on. I figured I needed to make the first decision first and consider what follows. or not, after.
I hope you decide to stay, at last as long as I do, she says selfishly. I love your posts. And if there's one writer who doesn't get the recognition they deserve, it's you! You always put such an effort into your posts for which, I feel you've not been amply enough rewarded.
That was all very kind of you to say.
I have not felt under appreciated really. I have some kind folks that have been generous to me and some that curate for different groups they have made me feel pretty loved. I used to get $3 or $4 or a little more for a post, but most of the time I do better than that now, thanks to my Hive friends and sometimes Hive strangers. So for me, it's such an improvement over what I used to make, that I haven't felt like I was neglected or ignored.
Ah. That's great to hear. Sounds like things have picked up from the times I was remembering. Nice to hear.
Although.... this post may be an exception because, who will want to promote this ?? LOL... It's all good.

does powering down means one cannot proceed to post? i've been away for a year or so, also have a bit that i thought i might want to take out if i could figure out how. but im so behind with what's happened here i don't quite know what to do or not to do/ enjoyed your post nevertheless. bacon is always a winner. :)
Hi !
Powering down has nothing to do with whether you post of not. You can take out whatever you want and keep posting just like always.
If you were asking because of Gillian's question to me, I took it that she was asking if I decided to take out my hive, would I stay here and keep posting or let it go altogether.
Thanks for stopping over.... and you are SO right about bacon !
OMG, you are traitor. Die traitor, die!!! 🤣🤣
Some proper yummy food shops in this post!
Alas.... I'm one of THOSE.... or I might be. I suppose contemplating it makes me just as guilty. I'm so ashamed. I'm just Hive 💩 now. 😄
As for the food, it makes me want to cook some bacon for supper now. 🍴
Lol, don't fret. It's yours and your can do with it as you please!
It felt me quite in the mood for a bit of bacon too! 🙂
Yeah.... I just wish I were more confident about future access. I don't really want to cash it out..... and yet I don't want to totally lose it either. Dilemmas.... dilemas.... ugh !
Dilemmas are rubbish. Just go for it that's what I always say, no regrets!!
I watch Hive grow bigger and better every day! I have complete faith in the brilliant people that I see putting so much energy into building Web3.
Hi !
I understand what you are saying (although I can't say I know what you mean by Web3), but my concern for myself is not how good Hive itself is, which as far as I'm concerned is great, but the question of future access to my earnings. I in no way had any intent to put down the program or it's creators and all it's parts as a whole. I don't think I did that.
Your level lowered and you are now a Red Fish!
