Ever wanted to create webcomics? I have been sketching and cartooning since I was very small, now I use a tablet, but I still enjoy paper and my fine line pens.
Here is my character Edric from the stories I have been sharing.
How to Draw Edric
- Start with a circle and draw curved lines vertical and horizontal from the top and left middle points.
- Roughly take the middle points downwards and add a boxy jaw shape (no need to be precious with it at this point)
- Now approximate where the neck will be.
- Our dude isn't a robot so his skull will be more egg-ish than boxy, and give him some shoulders. Play with it to get the correct proportions, everyone is different.
- Take away superfluous lines and give him an ear down from the eye-line.
- Yep, the horizontal line is roughly where the eyes should be, the central vertical line will form the middle of the face and where the nose lives.
Steps 6-7
Check out how the face is made up of basic shapes.
In particular, note that the nose juts out from that line, the nose is not on the line.
Step 7-12
For the rest it is about adding details and selecting the lines you want to keep and those you want to throw away. This is why we draw light and roughly, so we can come back and select where we got it right and ignore where we go wrong.
