My Life-Changing Deep Detox Journey: Part 1

** A holy sht experience, literally*

Today and in Part 2, I’m sharing about my deep gut detox journey. What I experienced, the benefits and some tips for getting through it.

First off, it changed my life! It healed this mild yet persistent ezcema on my hands that I’d had for YEARS. It also improved my digestion massively, everything moves more quickly and easily and I’m less bloated. I can also tolerate more delicious foods without having sensitivity reactions. Overall, I generally feel healthier, lighter, clearer. I highly recommend this experience.

Aside from some birth trauma, I was born healthy. Unfortunately due to way too many unnecessary antibiotics as a baby and as a teenager and a terrible experience being on the pill as a teen, and other traumas from western medical doctors, my gut health was severely compromised.

Babies are born without much of a microbiome. We develop healthy gut flora as good bacteria colonizes our little bellies, starting with the bacteria in the vaginal canal and on the skin surrounding a mother’s nipple. This process of developing a healthy microbiome takes time. Mine, like so many people in our society, didn’t have a fair chance to develop. Once a holistic doctor told me that without proper probiotic gut flora restoration after a single 10-day course of antibiotics, it can take over a year to rebuild the gut. And I was on antibiotics for YEARS!!

I did a 6 month candida diet years ago, it helped immensely! I could exist in my body again after suffering terribly. I’ve maintained a good diet since, but I knew I needed a deeper level of detox.

After leaving my 9-5 NYC-grind job earlier this year, leaving a moldy building in Brooklyn, I took the summer and created the space in my life to re-set and deep detox with the Bio Cleanse Detox.

I choose the Bio Cleanse Organic Detox kit because my friend was doing it and right when she told me about it, and I saw the box, my body said a profound YES, this is the one!

The “Full Strength” version of the cleanse is 10 days on herbs and bentonite clay + psyllium husk shakes, including 5 days of liquid fasting. I had eaten a prep detox diet leading up to the start of the cleanse to limit the intensity of detox reaction.

When we began, I was nervous...How would it feel? What would I face? What deep emotions would arise? What would come out of me?!?!? I’ve done cleanses, detox diets, short fasts, mono diets, plant medicine dietas and Ayahuasca ceremonies...but I’d never done this before!

Stay tuned for Part 2, much love and happy belly vibes to you!

Interesting share. I look forward to part 2. I think in the near future, gut bacteria will play a much more significant role in health. People will become aware of the benefits of probiotics and prebiotics. Good health starts in the gut and flows out through the skin. 5 days of liquid fasting seems pretty intense. I guess I will have to wait until the next post to find out how it all went...

Yes I totally agree about the role the microbiome will play in health in science. I recently read a great Ted talk book on the microbiome and was so excited to learn how much scientific research is now happening in this realm! It also had really cool facts, like a mosquitos attraction to individuals is based on the person's microbiome! And yes the 5 days of liquid fasting was pretty intense, challenging at times but so worth it!

Great info. People need to learn a lot more about these kinds of things. A cleanse and healthy eating can (sometimes) do so much more than a pill from the doctor!

So true!!

I was just in Russia. I've been drinking unpasteurized beer, kefir, and this other yogurt like drink (forgot the name). All have live bacteria. It does do wonders for the digestive system, I can feel it!

Too bad they pasteurized everything in the U.S.

Yes! All those things have healthy bacteria that's good for the microbiome. I know it's crazy how obsessed America is with pasteurization. In Maine, raw butter is legal :)

There's a great story in Michael Pollan's Cooked doc on Netflix, where he tells the story of a cheese making biochemist nun who fights the FDA to continue making her cheese the traditional way - in a old wood barrel full of healthy microbes, which is technically illegal in this country. Traditional foods are so important for us to keep in our diets!

Interesting. First time to see that reply so to see the accuracy of the bot, I followed the link. The bot technically isn't incorrect, but the original source appears to belong to the same person, just on a different platform.

It is interesting. The website it sites is mine :) I did change some of the copy for this post, but some of the sentences are the same.

OMG the Bio Cleanse Detox! That was intense... if anyone doesn't know, Google 'mucoid plaque'! :-D

Haha will you post one of your mucoid plaque pics here?
