What do you have in mind for a monetary replacement for the fed? They are a private corporation so about all you could think about doing is severing the contract for them to be the financial agent for the UNITED STATES INC.

The focus should be on ending the fed, the centralized printing, distribution, control, and fractional reserve system. Keep the "dollar" per se, just deny bankers the ability to manipulate it
I think we get rid of the Fed by stripping away it's food. The federal government feeds that monster, and its previous incarnations as well. I think if you want to get rid of a weed, dig up the root and get rid of the whole plant.
If you got rid of the legal tender laws, that dissolving the Federal Gov't would do. Then the Fed will simply dissolve as well. Then the free market will deal with the units of exchange just fine, most likely an assets based honest money.
