Mrs Wookie is putting the hard word in for me losing some of my dad bod. It's not a bad idea so I'm not against it.

I've put a few kgs on since I last measured myself and over winter so I've got to lose that.

Luckily here in New Plymouth we have a number of walking tracks, a couple of which are just down the road.

I also created a spreadsheet using some of the latest body metric calculations to keep track of my progress.

This way I only need to enter my Weight and my Waist and it will calculate everything for me. As you can see I have some work to do to get my BMI down.

So how do I calculate everything? Here's the formulas I used:

Body Mass Index:

The general formula for BMI is “Weight / Height ^ 2” however this is largely deemed too simplistic and inaccurate so I have used the following formula:

1.3 * Weight / Height ^ 2.5

Body Fat Percentage:

The formula for this I’ve used is:

Child: ( 1.20 * BMI ) - ( 0.70 * Age ) - (3.6 * Gender ) + 1.4
Adult: ( 1.51 * BMI ) + ( 0.23 * Age ) - (10.8 * Gender ) - 5.4

Gender is 1 for Male and 0 for Female

NOTE:

The use of Gender needs to be noted. Despite whatever pronoun you prefer to be known by it is important to note that these formulas are biological. As such you need to enter your birth gender for accurate results. Identified gender will be incorrect. For example, if you were born male but at a later stage of life you went full transition, even though you identify as female you WILL need to enter MALE. This is because despite all treatments your DNA is still XY and can’t be changed.

Relative Fat Mass:

Formula used is:

Male: 64 – 20 × ( Height / ( Waist / 100 ) )
Female: 64 – 20 × ( Height / ( Waist / 100 ) )

NOTE:

The formulas for Relative Fat Mass and Waist To Height use the added formula ( Waist / 100) this is because my tape measure works in centimetres and so for accurate results it needs to be divided by 100 to match the metres used in Height.

One thing I'm not going to do is alter my diet. I do not believe in nutrition as nutritionists go on about. Given that most nutritionists believe sugar is stored energy then I feel they don't understand basic physics and chemistry and therefore cannot be a reliable advisor on what the body does with food. So I'm going to ignore their advice and just try to follow one simple goal:

Eat less and move more
