This big pile was built in Victorian times, as a private estate, at some point in its life it used to be some form of home for single mothers with children mainly immigrants from ireland, run by the salvation army as a maternity home.
It’s life as a residential care home began Circa 1995, Two brothers who inherited the business from their father were fined more than £82,000 after their “depressing, unhygienic and unsafe” care home was shut down by inspectors following a surprise visit in 2016.
These breaches were assessed by CQC as extreme, the seriousness of the concerns placed a significant risk on the lives, health and well-being of the people living there, paying £1k per week for the privilege.
It was found that the premises were unsafe and poorly maintained lacking even the basic needs such as hot water, fresh food and clean rooms, to the extent that residents were placed people at risk from infection.
The list goes on and on thankfully no one died as a consequence the above issues, anyways on with the mooch.
SO, ANYWAYS, THE MOOCH......
This is situated on one of the main arteries into Liverpool and surrounded by a 7ft high wall and big locked gates, fortunately the neighbours were more friendly with an open gate onto the driveway, (this was in the days before the scamdemic when everyone was at work!).
In the garden turn left, through the shrubs, great just a small wall of about 3ft. Well I say 3ft! The drop the other side was about 7ft:
Urbex rule #67, look before you leap, check
Urbex rule #68, look where you are walking, fail, as I have just trodden in what I hoped was nothing more than a big dollop of dog shit
Urbex rule #04, if you can get in worry about getting back out when the time comes Check
Hanging over the wall.....and with a silent prayer to Shiva , Ganesh, and even Hanuman I dropped down,
“fuck me im in one piece was my first thought,
“ah bollocks a workman’s skip” was my second.
“ I need to get this shit off my shoe” was my third.
(Interlude, as I walk crab like scraping said shoe in the long grass )
Not only a clean shoe but no irate builder coming out asking what I was doing, promising!
The doors all secure the windows all boarded..... except for a loose piece of plywood I found round the back “honestly it just came off in me ‘and gov”. Great not much broken glass to sweep off the sill. Oooof it was a bloody dark basement
Sometimes the basement doesn’t lead anywhere.
Coming out of the darkness into a wonderful grand entrance hall and stairway, which to be honest was not expected
A few ground floor rooms of interest, classy security, an old door nailed across the window!
Upstairs the usual care home paraphernalia, and a number of patients Care notes and stuff
On the roof, it's peaceful as can be
And there the world below can't bother me
Sang the drifters back in the day
There was an abundance of soft furnishings throughout, I chose not to rest my weary legs just in case Gladys had been about
So that was it time to leave
Urbex rule #10, if you come across a ladder or a stool keep it handy it may prove useful
Urbex rule #92, remember where the dog shit is
So I got back to the car clean and uninjured and less fragrant than an hour earlier.

Another great old building left to rot. That staircase and piano would have been impressive back in the day. Care homes are a growing business and there's probably good money to be made from it. Of course the hygiene issues will be more closely watched given current circumstances.
Stay safe.
I loved the stain glass windows, those usually get trashed but it’s remarkable and I hope they get preserved
Mossley!, it's on my Liverpool hit-list.. in fact the only thing on the Liverpool to-go so far. That's when we get to this city. There are plenty more closer yet.
I will watch out for dog-shit, it's not something I'm particularly partial too!
PS: Your stories are getting more entertainig.
Thanks,
Ive got a few in that area if you haven’t got them on your list
Dog shit is the most soul destroying thing in the world ever!
Thanks,
We seem to be getting more further afield every week. Leeds yesterday, and there are still some left. Harrogate has a few and so that's on the agenda.
Manchester has some left, but then it's on the Beatles territory. I will take you up on your offer though, thanks!
There are a few mills in the Wigan area, but Winstanley Hall is now off the cards after reading about the maniac with the loaded shotgun threatening explorers.
Sounds like a nice chap, but that’s the problem now too many individuals not treating Urbex with respect and just running amok with their go pros switched on goofing about.
Urbex is about the building not the fucktard holding the camera.
Ok let me know when you are going to Liverpool
Bloody hell, they had even roof terraces. Did you manage to get there? Is that where you took the roof photo from?
Yes managed to get onto one terrace for that shot
An abundance of soft furnishings - nice!
You guys doing posts about dumps are fascinating
Thank you
It’s nice to see that people enjoy our adventures
This is an extraordinary observation and report. I like it.
Thank you
Damn, a home is depressing enough, for such a grand building to fall into such a state is even more depressing
Yes I bet it was awesome back in the day when it was full of family and laughter
