Wire Perching

Three Toes Forward One Toe Facing Back

Not photography I particularly look out for is man made wires hanging around to me they are an eyesore, this week however I had to hone in finding birds that forever perch on the cables above.

Focusing on variety of birds that tend not only to enjoy branches, often perch on wires constitute largest order of birds today. I recall as a child living inland watching the swallows gather along the wires at dusk in their hundreds, preparation prior migration to warmer places when our winter started to set in.

Freedom of movement allows majority of birds to sit anywhere, for a short rest, position higher off the ground to hunt, locate other flying insects or dive down to the ground picking up next meal.

Lesser Striped Swallow we have an abundance, visiting in the warmer months some may migrate to more Northern regions of Africa during our winter months.

Trendy Fork-tailed drongo will find a suitable spot to take insects on wing, finds wire or branch to quietly look for food before swift flight.

Dark-capped Bulbul keeping an eye left and right wonder what they are looking for....

Nothing going on, some time to give each other a little attention.

Brown-hooded Kingfisher another common sight in our region, will enjoy perching on high to source food, this kingfisher does not fish, insectivores are they, will venture into other tastes to delight their palette.

In a week all the above to ensure the birds make grand entry into our feathered friends who are able to perch on a wire quite comfortably.

We have a variety of them along our waterways, one lives in gardens locally they are gorgeous having around.

Hello lady @joanstewart
you are very lucky to find several species of birds perched on the wire, it is incredible to see a black-crowned tern perched on a wire, every time I saw one, they were on a branch of a tree
Beautiful photographs

Birds appear to enjoy a clear view, even if I have a dislike of lines above ground they use them all the time, as do the monkeys using them as their elevated highway !LOLZ

My girlfriend left me because of my obsession with storytelling.
I wonder how the next chapter in my life will go.

The bird in the first picture is very beautiful, its tail is very unique.

Stretching out tail feathers in early morning sun, little swallow getting ready to fly off.

Beautiful photos!

I definitely agree with you that man-made wires around are an eyesore. They must be very useful to these birds, though 😀

They tend not to notice, it's there use it....

Hi Joan, I. Love that first photo and the two looking in opposite directions is funny. 😄

Very aware of everything below, love chatting with these birds.

Good afternoon dear friend @joanstewart
You are absolutely right, cables on public roads are a big problem in all cities and they really look horrible.
How great that you were able to find many species of birds that fit the challenge of the week

Our windy season, one does see them take a break on the telephone lines.

I'm surprised these remain with the copper inside, so much has been stolen yet these remain, not sure it still works government switched us off during pandemic now most rely on cellular phones.

Team work on the look to left and right. It will be interesting to know what they are on the look out for.

Thanks @ladiesofhive have a wonderful weekend.

Lovely 'bird on wire' entry Joan! The Bulbul seem to be checking if anyone's watching before getting up close and personal😉
The Swallows are back in the one nest, very early, or is that normal?
Seems like we're in for good weather, have a lovely weekend🤗

Always enjoy the bulbul birds such a talkative bird that answers when you whistle.

Swallows have arrived exceptionally early, although it appeared some never left as I have seen them throughout this mild winter we have had.

Little wind, right for the season these cold spells have not been long enough to clean out the air, rain was appreciated although minimal. Have a wonderful day too.

That's very true, we still saw some swallows in our area during winter, but none made use of the nest. It must belong to another family, hopefully they don't have a problem with 'squatters'😉
Shoo, and how quickly the weather turned, it's been so windy today!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend Joan.

Perfect once again after wind yesterday, have a brilliant Sunday.

Always a pleasure supporting.

Beautiful birds and beautiful photos. You know I often wonder why they love perching on electric poles.

We have poles slightly to left of this, every time you look up another bird is on top. Musical chairs....

Hahaha... Musical chairs indeed! 😁

Lovely photos for this week's contest!

Thanks Melinda really appreciate your support.

It is a common view of any swallow to perch on wire. The one you've got is awesome.
So are the other birds you captured.

Communications systems appear well utilized 🙃

LOL 😆
