Lately I've been thinking a lot about my school days (which were not all that pleasant) and some of the experiences I had there, good and bad, and how they helped shape the younger version of myself into what I am today. It's those formative years that can set the tone for how one's life will unfold and while I had some terrible experiences I had some good ones as well...and they've all helps me move through life bit by bit.
School Days
I decided I wanted to share some of those stories, some I already have, and felt none of my current communities are completely right for such things and that's when I decided to start a new community specifically dedicated to events, experiences, opinions and thoughts based on people's school, college and university days.
As always, with my communities (and school for that matter) there's a short set of rules which I do not feel are unreasonable so take a look below and understand them prior to posting in the community. I'm happy to clarify any points if you'd like, just drop your question into the comments and I'll respond.
That's about it really; I know many people post into their favoured communities and may not want to break out and into a new one and that's completely ok with me, but for those with school-related stories to share, and who don't mind supporting a new community space, then you're welcome to take a look at the rules below and begin posting.

Ooh I love this idea, though my school years were so far back I hope I can remember them😂. Like the time I dropped my chisel on the way to school and then my rock rolled away with my math homework!! Oh, the trauma 😂. I'm sure most folks will have a tale or two to share and I look forward to reading them
It's always of concern whether one can even recall one's school days at this late stage of life but I reckon I've got a few I'll share. I reckon your chisel-drop story would be good, or maybe we could do a joint-series about what it was like walking to school having to dodge and run away from dinosaurs.
Those damned pterodactyls always stealing our lunch. And people bitch about pigeons these days!
Lol, yeah igeons are nothing compared to what we had to deal with.
Yea, like walking fifteen miles in the snow just to get there lol
Uphill both ways.
I forgot that part lol
This should be a fun community!
Time will tell, most people went to school so there should be a story or two.
I hope there's going to be loads of interesting stories here instead of people just talking about what subjects they studied and what SAT/GPA/whatever score they got at school.
It's up to others to provide the content and as long as it revolves around their school days and they follow the community rules it's all welcome. I think there's a broad range to talk about like school sports, activities, excursions, clubs, friends/enemies, parental/teacher issues, how they chose subjects to reach career goals, changing schools, general events and happenings, observations, curriculum and so on. I think people could really pod down some good posts.
I'll be grading it and issuing scores.
Not really.
Maybe I'll write something. I only attended public schools for half of 2nd grade and all of 4th grade though. Most of my primary and secondary education was homeschooled. That could be interesting content for some readers though. And as for the public school experience, 4th grade was unpleasant for the most part. But that means good stories, perhaps.
I'd certainly be interested to hear your homeschool-v-school experiences. I've met a kid or 3 who are being homeschooled and they seemed to me brighter and more forthcoming. That may be a case of confirmation bias since I consider the school system not fit for purpose.
Home-schooled kids have a popular stereotype to overcome, with much of the public considering them sheltered and neglected. My experience is one of broader enrichment through libraries, museums, and interaction with a wide range of people, and I think the majority of home-schoolers have similar experiences. Why malign that instead of a regimented life run by faceless bureaucrats with a pace set to the least common denominator and segregation by age? Working at my own pace on required subjects while pursuing my interests helped me develop my individuality instead of the mindless conformity I perceive to be encouraged by government education mandates and school cliques.
Yeah, I agree that homeschooling counts. I'll add that into the description as well. If you feel like sharing that'll be good.
Well sir it's really a good idea to go, I also miss school days well tbh now it's been only a year I have passed my school but I still miss the time where we were reallyvery happy together. I miss those times whenever I see or open the gallery my school friends come up and yeahh!!! I miss those times and think i wish I could go back and live a life once more. Actually when we are at school we think when we will grow up it's a headache but now we grown up and see that school was far much more better.
Indeed.
I think it's great and as far as possible I will try to collaborate because as a lifelong teacher I think it's very good to publish these stories in which we were once the protagonists.
What limits me is that I don't have photos of that time, since it's been more than 40 years.
But, I will try to participate.
Thanks for the creation of the community.
Happy Thursday.
Cheers and greetings.
Any photo will do, it's more about what you write. Most of the images I use don't have much to do with the topic, it's just a visual aspect to capture attention.
Looking forward to seeing how this community develops!
I'm not sure "develop" is what it'll do but I'll certainly drop a post here now and then.
I think it will be good. I work in public education and the stories are endless. I also had a rough time in school, but probably not nearly as bad as you guys based on some of the stuff I have read from your brother.
This is pretty cool, I like it.
I had good days and really 😞 bad days back then in school.
Most probably did which opens up the scope for what I think could be some interesting posts.
The stories from the school are interesting. During this time, several children from the neighborhood where I lived would go to school as a group. Rainy days were our favorite days to play and run around after school. I think this community is great and would love to be involved, but I don't have any photos from that time.
Greetings @galenkp
Well then, maybe you could use your imagination and use any photos huh?
Good point, I have some ideas now.
School experiences, in one way or another, shape who we become. This sounds like a great idea! Will there be prompts too?
I may do a prompt now and then, we'll see.
It would be amazing to see a community that is dedicated to our school life and its stories. can't wait to be a part of it.
Well you're in luck, that's what this community is for.
Interesting topic for a community, I haven't seen anything like it before. My experiences at school have also been bad, especially with my classmates and I have had many! Great idea!
