Sometimes hard work doesn't count

The world is evolving, taking in different things and changing from the way it used to be, and so, humans also have been adapting, accepting the new norms, and doing away with old lifestyles. Just as one inside a moving train is definitely moving along with it, we are all affected by change. There are so many things that have changed in the way we humans on this planet used to see the world, and this applies to every aspect of life. While some of those changes may seem very normal to others when mentioned, some might agree that such things are no longer the way they used to be known.

For me personally, I have seen a lot of things change. I have accepted new norms and have also rejected the ones unacceptable to me, sometimes wishing the days of the old could come back and have their effects again.

You see, these two things, Grace and Luck, they're very real. A lot of us, including me, once believed that hard work is one of the major ways to be successful in life. I believed that even a person born with a silver spoon could never keep such wealth without hard work. My perspective has changed on this subject. There are people who are making waves effortlessly, without doing one-third of what most people are doing. Things are just working for them, they keep winning, and if you look closely, what exactly are they doing? You won’t see anything tangible. That’s grace at work, that’s luck in life.

I came across something on social media yesterday (X), where a very controversial singer in Nigeria, by the name of Portable, is being analyzed and compared to some people in the industry who are not at his level, yet he’s earning far more money. This Portable guy has nothing really to offer in the music industry (no offense, please), but he's making waves far greater than those putting in effort to craft good art. I’m not saying Portable doesn't know anything; of course, he’s good in his field, but he can't just be compared with a lot of people. Grace and luck are just working for him. He came out in an era where it’s easy to make money in music through streams, YouTube, ambassadorial deals, and social media.

Grace and luck work very well, and I no longer discard them, believing that only hard work is needed. Even when I was in school, there were some students who didn’t do much, but their results always came out excellent. There was one I was close to, and at one point, I concluded that he was sorting lecturers to get marks, but no, he wasn’t, and he usually got good grades even when he complained about not writing well in exams. He was always surprised when he saw his results.

Opening my heart for luck to find me and turn things around for me is what I have put in my mind, even while I go about doing my daily work with maximum effort.

Thank You!
