Truck Motor Reassembly, 3DP, Serious Rollover Car Crash On Highway, First Aid, Rain - Tuesday

in Homesteading17 hours ago

It was a cool morning yesterday but above freezing and looked to be the last day of sun for a week or so. I got the boys to school then got the printer working for a while as I need a supply of the Dummy parts printed in various colors.

I went with bright pink for a couple sets.

SUPER HAPPY Fedex dropped off the timing slipper at 10:30am. The part was exactly correct!. Thank god!

IMG_20250311_104901.jpg

So with that I jumped in the sled and headed up to Deer Park and to the Napa where I picked up the socket I had ordered but don't require now as I got one and then got tubes of RTV silicone, the MAX version instead of basic versions. I needed the gray for the water pump which North40 didn't have. When I got back the next set of parts was done on the printer.

IMG_20250311_122429.jpg

All of the motor tear down for this little piece of plastic.... It hardly got eaten in the gears even... I really hope this is the only problem.

IMG_20250311_123313.jpg

And so the reassembly could commence in force. It took me a bit to make sure I got the timing chain installed correct and I quadruple checked the manual and the set of the gears and chain. I was a bit concerned I was a tooth off but I think it looks fine in the end.

IMG_20250311_130712.jpg

The timing cover and the block had to be scraped of all the old sealant and I wiped the surfaces down good and used a little grease remover in spots.

IMG_20250311_133157.jpg

I got everything ready for the cover but was whinging about not quite ready to apply the RTV. I wasn't fully sure I was ready to install it.

IMG_20250311_135808.jpg

So after a while I finally managed to build up the gumption and soon had a nice fat bead of sealant around the cover and the bolt mating surfaces inside.

IMG_20250311_145326.jpg

It went on, a bit messy, but it went on. I can see the bead of sealant along the mating surface and I got the bolts all in quick then the water pump installed. The boys had gotten home but I had my head still buried in the engine.

IMG_20250311_151420.jpg

I kept installing the parts and was UBER thankful I bagged them all in individual bags as it made it SO MUCH easier to put back together. The pulleys all went on, the crank pulley set in place, and the a/c partially installed. I was just working on the next parts and about to go get teh alternator which had delivered 10 minutes before when I heard the loudest boom explosion of a car crash at the intersection I have heard in the years we have lived here. I ran my ass off across the creek and down the road to the crash.

IMG_20250311_161659.jpg

I ran up to see the truck had impacted the SUV which rolled. The woman in the SUV was freaked out badly and was screaming in pain and fear. She is pregnant.... Not showing so still early but still...

IMG_20250311_162354.jpg

The first thing I did was see that a couple other men were at the SUV side with the woman and the man from the truck was visibly bleeding but near the SUV and I figured one of the others would be with him. I went to the highway and began kicking debris off the side and out of the driving lanes so as not to have traffic hit it.

I then saw the man from the truck walking towards his truck and I tried to quickly find something in the cab to put on his wound but saw nothing so went to him and had him sit down as he was wandering around in a daze. I got my hand on his atop his wound to make sure he was holding it tight enough which he was so I stayed with him as the fire trucks got near.

The fire station is 1/2 mile away so they got there nice and quick, though it feels like forever in the moment.

IMG_20250311_162357.jpg

Soon the sheriff, fire trucks, and a slew of WSP vehicles arrived. I pointed one of the responders to the man with the head wound then stepped back out of the way to let the EMS people take care of the situation. I got a call from R who was wondering where I was and soon the boys were out with me.

IMG_20250311_163335.jpg

I got the man to sit there in front of the SUV which I'm glad I did as the medics then put a neck collar on him then on a back board. Basic first aid but I'm super happy the knowledge was there in the moments. The firefighters brought out the jaws of life and popped the driver door off the SUV. The two other men who were first on scene got in touch with the woman's family as I had made the circle of the area looking for any personal effects of hers, maybe her phone, but didn't see it.

IMG_20250311_163337.jpg

Soon the ambulances arrived and both people were loaded on stretchers and into the backs. Neither of the ambulances coded and left immediately so I could tell that both drivers were going to be okay.

IMG_20250311_164202.jpg

I knew the man would given it was a head wound from going through the side window of the truck and as they wheeeld the stretcher to the ambulance I could see the woman moving her arms which is a good sign of at least not looking serious.

IMG_20250311_164205.jpg

Every WSP vehicle on duty it seems showed up. SO what happened was the guy in the truck was heading south and making a left turn across the highway onto C road heading east. He pulled out and directly into the driver's side front of the SUV which cause it to roll and pushed both vehicles off the highway.

IMG_20250311_164508.jpg

I had really greasy gloves in my pocket and did not want to get the grease on the man's wound so ended up with bloody hands. I rubbed them off with dirt a bit so we could watch a bit more.

IMG_20250311_164517.jpg

About 30 minutes later things were getting wrapped up and I didn't need to give any statements since I didn't see the wreck itself. The man did tell me that he never even saw the SUV....

With that the boys and I headed back to the house, picking up my package on the way. I then made sure to go wash off very good away any blood.

Later in the evening @stryeyz saw the FB post about it and the parents say the woman is going to be okay, no word on the pregnancy side but that won't be known for a while anyway most likely. The good thing is she is not super far along so there is that much more cushioning internally.

IMG_20250311_164547.jpg

So after all the commotion I was able to get back to work on the truck. I had a bit of a time getting the crank pulley bolt tightened but think it's as tight as I can get using the 36" pipe wrench.

IMG_20250311_171129.jpg

OMG!!! Would you look at that! Valve covers on!!!! It's looking like a motor once again!

IMG_20250311_182339.jpg

One problem so far is the stupid bolt for the condenser is stripped on the tip so I have to deal with that. Otherwise I think this will be back together today. I'll run to North 40 and get some fresh fluids for it all around as well as filters.

IMG_20250311_182344.jpg

It was 6:30 when I finally called it and went in for dinner. I really wanted the valve covers on with the rain inbound.

Screenshot_20250311-203214.png

Half hour soak then inside to abuse my muscles with the theracane as I am super sore, still this morning.

IMG_20250311_203239.jpg

Rain this morning but it is moving off soon, then I will get the boys to school, finish the truck assembly, hit North 40 and take a battery core in for return, get the printer going again after the filament clogged yesterday, then will clean up from the mechanics if the truck is running correctly, before getting dinner ready even earlier tonight due to a meeting and practice.

So very glad everyone was somewhat safe….. it could have been much worse!
Sounds like the pregnant woman will be ok!👍😊

Yeah I was a bit concerned hearing it initially but after I looked in the passenger side and saw the size of her bump I was much less worried. Our intersection is really bad for wrecks when traffic is moving at 70+mph both ways.

Just glad to hear everyone is going to recover it could've been so bad!🙄
