Raised on a hill, in whose surroundings the view can easily get lost in that metaphorical sea of green meadows that characterise its countryside, not far from one of the key cities of the Saint James Way, such as the monumental city of Estella, a small town called Aberin preserves one of the few architectural examples that defined a medieval Templar commandery.
Much reformed, of course, and currently converted into a receiver of utensils and all kinds of particular tools, the old commandery that the Knights Templar had on the edge of this important section of the pilgrimage route, continues, however, to preserve its solid corner watchtowers, which turn, towards the four cardinal points, around an emblematic Romanesque church, dedicated to the figure of Saint John the Baptist.
A temple, in which, in addition, one can appreciate, in the sculptural configuration of the carved capitals of its main portico, part of that mystical symbolism, which, in some way, characterized the thought of this medieval order of chivalry, among which there is no lack of allusions to duality or to what, centuries later, the eminent Jung would define as the action and reaction of two eminently antagonistic forces, such as opposites.

Thank-you
It could be said that it is a unique example of the 13th century Templar encomienda model that survives in Spain. Thank you very much for your kind comment and best regards.
