Greetings!

Here's another dish that I did not plan to cook at all. I came to cook this dish when I drove my elder sister to the market. At the market, she saw some salmon heads being sold, it is quite expensive but it is a very tasty fish and it has been a long time since we ate salmon so my elder sister was obliged to buy them.

This kind of dish is commonly known as "Ulo-ulo" in small restaurants since its main ingredient is the head of a salmon. Ulo-ulo is simply a stew and I will cook one today, aside from Ulo-ulo, the general term for this dish that I am going to cook is "Sinigang na Ulo ng Salmon.

By the way, in our language "Ulo" means "Head", thus the term "Ulo" in "Sinigang na Ulo ng Salmon".

By the way, I think this dish rose to popularity in the early 2000s. I am not into this kind of dish back then because I am not familiar with Salmon. But some of my officemates back then are already into "Sinigang na Ulo ng Salmon" which I always hear from them every lunchtime.

At first, I thought, what can I eat from the salmon head, but as time passed by, I discovered that the slice of the salmon is not entirely about the head but some meat is included in it when sliced. Also, the head itself consists of lots of meat. And today I now do enjoy eating eat because it is very tasty and very enjoyable to eat especially its soup, I can say that its soup is one of the best that I ever tasted.

Cooking it is quite easy, cleaning it is also quite easy, and it does not have a very strong fishy smell compared to Tilapia and blue scad mackerel which have quite a strong fishy smell.

So, without further ado here's how I cook this very tasty dish...

  • Sliced Salmon Head (Ulo ng Salmon) bought from the market
  • Radish
  • Cabbage
  • Onion
  • Ginger
  • Tomato
  • Green Pepper
