My recent favorite way to reuse bread / 最近気に入っている固くなったパンの使い方

I have written several times about how to use old bread, but I have a new favorite use for it. So I decided to write about it on the Hive Blog.

I cut old bread into small cubes around 2cm x 2cm x 2cm and freeze them. I always have a bag like this in the freezer.

Frozen bread is convenient because you can make croutons, or grind it up in a blender and use it as breadcrumbs. You can do both without defrosting the frozen bread cubes. But be careful, if they are too hard, they may brake your blender.

Once I was too lazy to make croutons, I put them straight into soup and simmered them together. They were delicious, and this way s becoming my favorite this winter.

First I stir fry the soup ingredients and add the bread cubes at the point where I add the water.

Then simmer for about 20 minutes. And voila! Everything I need for lunch is in the dish as shown in the photo on top.

Actually it is the same as the Spanish bread soup I introduced in the first post of Soup Stories.

If the bread contains a lot of whole wheat flour, it will not be so tender and meaty, but if you cook the white, fluffy bread, it will be like fatty meat, which is really delicious.

If the bread has become a little old, why not cut it into small pieces and store it in the freezer?

何度か過去にも硬くなったパンの使い方を書いたのですが、最近気に入っている使い方があるので、Hive Blogに書こうと思います。

我が家ではパンの端や、焼きすぎてしまったパンを小さな立方体に切って冷凍して保存しています。こんな袋がいつも冷凍庫に入っています。

冷凍したパンは解凍せずにこのままフラパンでカリッと焼いてクルトンにしたり、ブレンダーで粉砕してパン粉にしたりできるので便利です。

一度クルトンにするのさえ面倒な時があり、そのままスープに入れて一緒に煮たらおいしく、この冬はこの食べ方が定着しつつあります。

スープの具を炒めて、水を加える時点でパンキューブを足します。

あとは20分ほど煮て出来上がりです。

これ、考えてみるとスープストーリーズの初回で紹介したスペインのパンスープと同じなんですよね。

Soup Stories #1 Spanish Bread Soup

全粒粉が多いパンだとほろっとしてそこまでお肉っぽくはならないのですが、白いモッチモチのパンを煮るとまるで脂の多いお肉のような仕上がりになってこれまたおいしいのです。

そんなこんなで少し硬くなってしまったパンは小さめに切って冷凍庫にしまっておいてはいかがでしょうか!
