I find human nature fascinating and repulsive at the same time.
The former because it's interesting to study and understand behaviours, moods and attitudes and the latter because those behaviours, moods and attitudes are often quite reprehensible. I don't like people much, although I should probably amend that to most people are assholes and I don't like assholes.
Anyway, marketers are adept at understanding human thought and behaviour and use it to manipulate people into buying products and services - that's been the case informally and formally for a long, long time. It's quite polished these days, scientific even, and the majority of people find marketing difficult to resist and buy to the point of wastefulness; but that's a different post.
Today I'm focused on brand names and the power they hold over people and that extends to brand images, symbols and logos of course.
The image above is probably recognisable to most, the Chevrolet badge, but if you don't know it I'm sure the big yellow 'M' on a red background would be recognisable right? (McDonalds of course). These images draw people in and the marketing around the brands and symbols they use keep people spending mostly because they pitch their product as better for your life, something that will make you more than you are...which is usually utter bullshit.
What brands do you instantly recognise and why? What brands are so entrenched in your mind that they are the first thing you think of when you think of a product? Feel free to comment on this or anything related or unrelated below if you want to.

Well, my dad was an autoworker, so you are spot on with the auto reference. Those were pretty much ingrained in me from an early age. Have you ever seen those quizzes where you only see the logo and you have to identify the brand? Those are pretty interesting to see how well I recognize things.
I've not seen quizzes like that actually however I know a few people who would proudly state how excellent they are at naming the brands that brainwashed them into recalling them. Marketing works.
Indeed it does!
A little more than 10 years ago, it was current. I clicked and guessed with a high % of correct answers
Brands made it so that own their product will elevate you to a certain status, not owning them and you are a low class... That push people to buy stuff no matter the need but to be accepted... For example cars, here Audi or Mercedes, you are poor without one, but most of the people with them can't drive properly
Yep, they play on people's insecurity.
I definitely recognize the Chevy sign and instantly recognize the golden arch. Marketing works, my wife retired from being a Vice President of Marketing and other C-Suite roles :)
Though I have not been to McDonalds in over ten years and I never owned a Chevy. McDonalds associates with unhealthy so I don't go there. Tesla used to be my dream car (Model S), before Elon's antiques as a really poor leader for his company. Tesla people were always overworked and underpaid, kind of like Amazon. So now Tesla associates with Elon's poor leadership abilities and now also his support for Trump. So I am going to stick with the more traditional luxury brands such as BMW and Mercedes even though I can get a used Model S for around 10K now...
I'd never buy a Tesla based on the fuckassery of the owner, nothing to do with President Trump, just because he's a tosser in every way.
As for McDolalds...I associate it with low-clsss and low-intelligence people who have no discipline or care-factor for their health and wellbeing. It's the same for KFC, Burger King and all those types of places that prey on the weak minded and feed them trash.
As a kid, I loved guessing the car models with my friends, based on the signs on the hood. when I think of sports cars, I always think of the Stallion 🙂
I did the same thing, but didn't see many Ferraris in the small country town I lived in. Lol.
Marketers must be skilled at carrying out their duties, making it difficult for people to refuse. If they succeed, they profit, on the other hand, it's wasteful. Experience, if we don't want to waste, not what we want. The way to win people's hearts isn't through violence, position,or tank. The most effective way to win people's hearts is through morals. My comments and opinions. Thank you.
For sure.
Thank you for being able to interact and learn.
The popular brands have just programmed us to know them :D
Wait, sometimes we want to tell people about the products because of the status quo?
Also, something nostalgic connects me well if I have to think of a product. Ironically, every one of these names on my mind is a high-end product or something that has become to higher standards atm.
Indeed.
