Quality of Life Maxxing

Summer has finally ended, and it’s a good thing. I don’t have any more t-shirts. One ripped and another got lost on it’s way home. And another 3 got too tattered to wear outside over the past year.

Today I restared my desire to upgrade/downgrade my warddrobe.

I want fewer things and more things I love.

It’s hard to justify a bunch of $15 t-shirt when you can get perfectly wearable t shirts from Uniqlo and Muji. That is, until you realize that you have way more $15 t-shirts than you need and they all look pretty bas on you.

I have about 10 shirts I never wear becaue i hardly like them, I would GLADLY trade them for 3 shirts I love to wear.

Last year I made a list of things I wanted to do to makd my life better. I did maybe 8 out of 10 of them (forgot the clothing) and my life did, in fact, get better.

I made a little area for myself on the dining room table that would serve as a music studio. I bought a bunch of guitar effects and moved from acoustic to electric guitar. I got a new computer meant mostly for music and media related stuff.

I stopped drinking completely and stopped putting myself in social situations that made me uncomfortable. I cut a toxic person or two from my life. I went to the music festival I’d been dreaming of going to for 6 years.

Most of what I did was make purchases that I was nervous about makinng because they were out of my budget, but those things were absolutey worth it. There was a 3 month period where our financial situation was a little scary but even so it was worth it! Life is noticably better now.

There isn’t as much that is within my hands. Right now what I want requires more patience than effort, but I’ll do my best to take matters into my own hands.

Let’s see what I could do to make life better still. I’ll start with the easy stuff and slowly make my way to the more difficult.

1 Take an active role in Decluttering

80% of the stuff in our apartment is not mine, but I discovered the other day, she was keeping 8 empty notebooks on a shelf (just in case she needed them later). I use notebooks very quickly so I was confused why she didn’t tell me. I realized that while she is better at organizing things, she needs me to help her declutter.

2 Improve wardrobe - Quality over Quantity

As I said, I need to buy some clothes I love and downsize.

3 Portable bluetooth keyboard

I type a lot and I use my phone most of the time. If i had a keyboard I could type these articles much faster even when outside. Typing entire articles with my phone touch pad is already natrual to me but its far from convenient.

4 Invite more people over

It’s not normal to invite people over your house for no reaosn in Japan. You can invite them over but you need to tell then “for what” otherwise they worry it’ll be awkward or boring if they find your house or lifestyle isn’t what they are used to. I play music. Some friends play music. There’s that. We don’t drink which is the most common excuse but I want to work on some art projects which could use friends help so I can invite them for that.

5 Taking some real profits

I’ve been in the crypto space for 8 years and I never realy cashed out. My plan was to take profits after two cycles and here we are. Waiting for a good moment to sell a big chunk of my profits, 50% for our business, 30% to reinvest during bear and 10% to supplement income and not worry as much about doing things we want to do and 10% as a liquid safety net.

I don’t think I will be spending much more money but at lrast I will be able to travel for a week or two without worrying about depleting my bank account like I did this summer.

6 Sleeping one hour earlier

This was the point that I failed the hardest last time. I don’t think it will be easy to sleep 2-3 hours earloer which is my final goal so I will start small. Sleep by 1:30 AM average for now. Then from there we will move it back another hour

7 Stick to a routine

I always do the things I plan on doing but I tend to binge on one point. I play music for 4 hours a day for a month straight then spend another month studying Japanese that much i need to make sure I do at least a little of both and exercise every day. 20 minutes of each is ok and then if i want to do more of one I can choose which. But that 20 minutes a day is super important so I want to get used to it. Music, Study excerise: every day.

I don’t want to add anything that is out of my control here or anything too ambitious. I want to focus on the biggest change I can make with the smallest adjustments.

What are some of yours?

If Kyoto wasn’t Kyoto…. - Home recordings

I had a job interview earlier this week. They asked for references almost immedaitely thereafter. I haven't worn business shirts regularly in about half a decade. But they hang in my wardrobe. Since I've been going to the gym (a lot more) in that time, I find many of these shirts don't fit me anymore, and I get discouraged whenever I try one on.

So yesterday, I tried them all on, and left a great big pile on the ground of the ones that were too small, or too cavernous, and kept the ones that were just right. I wanted to do the same thing with T-Shirts. I managed to get rid of two or three of them.

The lack of anxiety I'll face, now knowing I can reach for any of my business shirts and they'll all fit and be comfortable and something I can feel confident in took ... me an hour to achieve, but took my half a decade to do.

It is indeed these little things that can improve your life.

I don't want to buy any t-shirts or pants, until I practically have none left, then I'll hope that uniqlo will have something for me, and I can retire into a "buy it once, and keep buying the same thing" sort of clothing and fashion life.

That’s a good point! Half a decade to do but an hour to achieve! I don’t know if I’ll be able to throw out EVERYTHING I want to throw away right away because I just don’t have enough t shirts I can wear outside, but I can definitely throw out a bunch of retired shirts and “sleep shirts” I never wear.

I’ll do it tonight!

Glad to hear the interview went well and hope things move in a good direction. Hope you like the job!

I got the phone call about 20 minutes ago. I start November 10. Anxiety riddled post to come :P

Kyoto, one of my favorite cities in Japan 😄 !ALIVE

Sorry I didn’t get in touch with you again during that time! I hope I can go back to Kansai and play a few shows next year!
