RE: Update on Switch to HIVE (Including update on rentals)

in PeakMonsters4 years ago

Why can't you just keep accepting Steem and SBD for rentals? If there is demand for both renters and rentees, why not accept that until such time as you have a replacement?

ps... thanks for the update!

This is my personal opinion: that rentals system is somewhat of a sub-optimal (failed) product. Which sucks because it was mostly my brainchild. I don't think it works well and I am not excited about having it on the site. And then combine that we are unconvinced of the financial benefits that gives another reason to not support it as it is.

I think stopping new rentals maybe motivates us and others to help figure out a product that will work much better.

With the cooldown changes we can do something so much better seeing that deciding a length of contract isn't that important because renters can just keep renting.

I would love to see a renter come in and decide which cards they want and we simply rent out to them all those cards. With one price per rental that means the best price goes to the user.

And then if a card is no longer available from an owner the renter just clicks a button and the card is rented again they don't even have to care who they're renting from they just tell us which cards they want.

That's the kind of system that i think would work to bring in new users. The kind of system I think I'd be more proud of.

Also something fast and easy for both renters and owners.

I don't know if your ideas of what you want to see is better or not, but I certainly wouldn't try to challenge you on figuring out a good solution (ie you and asgarth have earned much respect by me and others).

I do however think you are wrong about the value of the rental system you have developed. I don't think its failed at all, in fact I would argue without it the game would've never progressed to the point where it is today (on the good progression side of things). I know many people rely on rentals and I think you will hear an outcry when its removed. That's ok since as you said there wasn't much money in it for you, but to me its a shame that @aggroed and @yabapmatt didn't figure out how to support you guys a little extra for the value the rental system brought to the game.

In my opinion the game will suffer in the short run as a result of it being stopped.

Having said that, it is what it is and I look forward to what you come out with to replace it. And maybe next time the devs will appreciate the value it brings more. (ps... its a shame to have to go through these ups and downs when the value is so obvious in my opinion, but in the long run I think we will get there and thanks for all you both do!!!)

The rental system you have in place is the only thing that has kept me playing tbh. So, No. It is not a failure. And with most of my rentals expiring by the end of this season, I'll probably skip the next seasin till a time rentals are active again.

I think the best solution would be to keep the system that is in place as it is, and work on improvements in the background.

Deactivating the rental system will in fact discourage a lot of new players like myself.

Again, the rental system is NOT A FAILURE! Please keep it going. Thanks for the work you guys put into this.

If that's the case rentals kept you playing then I hope a better rental system will make you even happier.

It definitely will! But wouldn’t it be better to keep the current system running, until a better system is ready?

Can't you just let the current system stay for a while until the new system reaches the final stages before implementation?

I agree with that idea @jarvie, rent any letter anytime and anywhere without depending on another tenant who has the letter available.

Although I know it has cost you a lot of work in programming that aspect in "peakmonters", it is really successful for people like me and for thousands of Spanish speakers within the game who do not have many resources to buy cards directly in the market.

Thank you very much for the great work, I look forward to the new rental market and many successes.

I'm one of those who mainly plays using rented cards. I was sad to hear that rentals will be stopped. But now that I imagine the rental scenario you mention here. This looks so awesome! I hope it doesn't take too much time to create though...
