Dancing Lady Orchid

in WE ARE MOVING2 years ago

Dazzled By Nature

How often do we take breaks during the day, exercising eyes, refreshing the mind, all good reasons to be outdoors aware of change.

IMG_1753.JPG

Walks happen randomly throughout the day, whatever pops into sight capturing my interest will be photographed, that is life during the week, hopefully soon we will be wandering the beaches once again soon. 'Go ahead' has been given, I don't trust venturing down till double green robot light is up flashing.

Oncidium (Dancing Lady Orchid)

IMG_1750.JPG

Two orchids in my tree sharing with Staghorn fern, never flowered in twelve years now establishing themselves. Before going away early October one had a spike protruding up over a foot in length, patience eventually reveals blooms.

IMG_1996.JPG

Not knowing much about orchids, except odd bits gleaned from @carrinm who shares regularly cycling the bush in Australia orchid sightings and description, mine is limited knowledge. This spike took around a month to reach height, one third down it bent when heavy winds passed through.

Dancing Lady orchid has dazzled me through the month of October now into November with a few blooms still showing from the one and only stem I have ever seen on this plant.

IMG_1763.JPG

Hopefully soon the other orchid will flower too, it has spread, looks healthy with no interference from yours truly, a wild zone in my garden.

IMG_1754.JPG

Being protected within the established Staghorn fern (Polypodiaceae), I do not fertilize nor feed, dead tree leaves fall into the Staghorn, small twigs all decay in nature feeding itself, once or twice a year a banana peel is placed to assist. We rely on humidity or rains for watering, truly a natural garden in/under the tree.

Thanks for visiting our end to cool wet Durban, today hot and humid once again, still wishing for snow on the mountains inland, have a wonderful weekend.

Durban really looks like the place that has the perfect climate to grow things!

Everything grows now rains have arrived, gets too hot and humid in summer for my liking...

I love growing season. It is much better than bare twigs and dead branches season!

Growing heat one keeps moving, green may attaches itself to you....

How are you dear friend @joanstewart good day
How beautiful are your orchids, they have had a great growth
Without a doubt, the walks are very good to recreate the view and take pictures of the environment.
I hope you are soon enjoying the beach and the sea
enjoy the weekend

Calculated this morning it took 16 years for this orchid to settle and flower, been a good year with unusual plants coming to life all of a sudden.

Have a brilliant day and thanks for supporting always.

Those flowers are gorgeous, and I cannot imagine myself having anything but a glorious day waking up to such delicate beautiful plants.

It never ceases to amaze me the varied beauty of nature in different regions:)

One spike with many arms all filled to the brim with flowers, it has been fun seeing they are able to survive outdoors on their own.

Trust you are both well.

Yes, we both are 😁
Thank you!
Have a lovely Sunday:)

Let your hair down and enjoy the people, different style to relaxing.

Haha! It's the best thing to do:))

A wild zone in your garden looks so amazing, dear @joanstewart! I like your Dancing Lady Orchid very much! ❤️

Little space for nature to enjoy doing whatever she likes, thanks for visiting and take care!

Those dancing lady orchids are too gorgeous. Mine didn't flower so prolifically this year, looks lovely and cool in your garden, but it looks like summer is showing up more often, it was a really hot day today!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend Joan 💖

I was excited to see them bloom, inherited from my neighbour when she passed 16 years ago, wonderful to see them, knowing she would be so thrilled as an ardent gardener.

Loving cooler weather today!

Thank you for entering the contest.
Most of the time, people look for attractions (natural and otherwise) outside the home because they no longer perceive what they have in their backyard.
They should take your example and re-examine their surroundings. Maybe they will find a "treasure" :-)

Many delightful attractions in a garden, life is abundant around us we need not look far and wide to enjoy.

Thanks for lovely comment and support as always.

You're right. You just have to "tune in" to the right "wavelength" and you can see interesting things even where others only see a pile of leaves :-)

I wish you a nice rest of the weekend and a successful start to the new week.

I don't see much of the Dancing Orchids in our local nursery here. I guess they sell only phalaenopsis variety of orchid. I love orchids. They bloom for ages!

Love the orchid Joan and l love protected it is. A right little ecosystem under that tree!

After years turning the soil, adding compost trying wild flowers under the tree I eventually gave up, put ferns in and called it my wild garden.

Now it does have some most unusual plants in there amongst the ferns, never raked or cleaned it can do it's own thing!

I do love wild gardens, more often than not, nature can outnature us ;)

We whirl, we twirl, yet if the plant is not happy nature will look after it's own....

hehe that is so true, nature knows best 🌀

Orchids are wonderful plants that need the right place and little light and water etc. I looked after a couple of orchids when my sister was away for a few months and I was very impressed how they both thrived, so am now willing to try my hand with my own orchid.
I really loved your yellow Dancing Lady Orchid the tree, so pretty.

Staghorn fern seated itself in so comfortably the decision to place the orchids in there and leave them alone perhaps the best decision made. Nature looks after itself once you find the right spot by the look of it.

Dancing lady orchids are a nice surprise in your garden. How lovely to see.

Beach weather is something I won’t see for a few months. 😊

Wonderful surprise when you know little to nothing about orchids, put them there in the hope that they were happy.

Perhaps you will manage a walk on the beach before full blown winter arrives, hoping I too will be able to go down before the heat of summer, and school holidays when everything gets too busy.

You're welcome @joanstewart! Have a nice day 😊👍🌹

Wow so beautiful! And they flower just like that after 12 years without doing anything?

Transferring them they took quite some time to settle yes, actually 16 years before flowering, I moved them in 2006.

Wow, and in all these years you believed that they would settle?

Nature takes it's time, now it should bloom every couple of years hopefully.

Let's hope... Imagine that you'd have to wait again such a long time... !LOL
