Good morning lovely Hive makers and creators!
I am just so excited for the little creations, I couldn’t wait until they were completely finished. I had to share. Aren’t they sweet?
I have a bunch of waste wool that is clean but cannot be used to spin into yarn and I hate to waste. So I spent some evenings listening to audiobooks and needle felting base pieces that hold the shape of what I want to create. I have made a few birds that need some finishing as well as these dolls.
I did mention in my previous posts that I volunteer at a small rural library. We have a summer reading program every year for 6 weeks, and one of the activities is an arts and crafts project. Unfortunately, they won’t be using very sharp needles to poke at wool to create.
Since I like to have homes for my creations, I am sure I will have some willing children for these beauties. Maybe we will make a dollhouse for them with a shoebox, some construction paper, and their imagination.
I’ve said it many times that I truly believe the importance of the creative process. It can be uncomfortable at times. Frustrating when things don’t turn out as we planned. But we still continue to create. Why? For me…..it is in my blood. I am happiest when I am challenged daily. Maybe we all are.
God bless and be well! Keep creating and making the world a better and more beautiful place!
Yea they sure look sweet but for me I won’t say it’s that sweet I mean it was supposed to be a doll and in making a doll the idea one should have in mind should be how to make it look like someone or a human beings and human beings have eyes, nose and mouth but that’s not here well...... every creator had his/her own style or story in mind when creating so I feel maybe that’s just how you wanted yours to look but it’s still nice 🤗 @yoginiofoz thanks for sharing 😎
The dolls without a face or very little faces like in my previous post are to help the child use their imagination. Imaginative play is best with just basic tools and toys so the child may spark up their own stories from personal experience and the world around them. And yes, if you had never seen one as an adult it might be strange. I have worked with children for decades and really love the basics when it comes to children’s toys. Thanks again for your thoughtful responses @smilestitches. Have a blessed day!
A dollhouse, yes please!!! Your two dolls are so cute, tiny heralds of spring (wishful thinking on my side) with the flowers in their hands. And I love how you made the hair, especially the braids look so lovely. I am sure the dolls will inspire your audience to try needle felting themselves <3
Thank you for your kind comments @neumannsalva. I really enjoy watching this process evolve. I will share more very soon. I just wanted to make a few first to see what the easiest approach would be when teaching a how-to post.
these dolls are very cute. It is very interesting to see also the birds that you do. I have never done anything like this. but my friend made beads from wool. it looked very elegant on her dress
Thank you! When I finish the birds, I will upload the pictures. I cannot decide if I want to make feet or put a little loop on them to hang them. Maybe both?
it depends how you want them to be: hanging or standing. I think both options are interesting. I'm curious which one you choose.
Me encantó tu trabajo. Feliz noche
Mucho gracias @zenia!
I love hearing about the rural library, a great space for learning and community! Our libraries here have extended opening times now - the are staffed some of the time and then other times, if you have completed an induction, you can use the library when it is not staffed. You could be in the library from eight in the morning until seven at night, if you wished! The attitude within the library service has changed - library spaces are seen more as community spaces that the service looks after. By arrangement, members of the community could run groups in the extended opening hours. I hadn't thought about it until now, but perhaps that's where I could set up a knitting group. Thank you for the inspiration!
If you have the community support then a knitting class would be wonderful!
They already are levely. Felting is on my list of fiber arts to explore but at this point, I am more interested in wet felting. I don't know if I have the patience to needle felt...
Thank you @mariannewest!
I have tried wet felting a few years ago. It's on the list this summer to attempt once again. Depending on the item you make (and how you wet felt) it can be time consuming as well. The nice aspect to needle felting is that I can do it without water during the winter months. I do hope you will share your techniques when you do wet felt. It's always interesting to see the process.
I will share for sure. And you are right, it also can be a lengthy process.
I am going to try to involve as much time saving tools as I can :)
lovely
So delicated! Great work.
Thank you @afrikablr!
What amazing felt dolls, I love that they don't have a face hehe they look so cute
Yeah, the face would be very weird to make with this technique. I will be putting together some tutorials to show the process, so it will hopefully make sense. Thanks for your comment @irenenavarroart!
Good morning @ cuddlekitten! It always brings a smile to my face to see you!
