Zyriel: The Last Ditch!

So, the promo of Zyriel: The Fallen, is now closed. As per the original post, there were 15000 cards promised. As per the last stats, there are 10,052 cards remained, which will be burned (hopefully). So for the record, this is probably one of the most unsuccessful promo card event; but perhaps better than Waka Spiritblade.

This is a good card in terms of stats. The Artwork is rather amazing and top notch, as almost always these days. However, there are many things that didn't go for it:

  1. Timing was terrible. We are going through the depths of crypto bear market, and we are just coming off paying DEC to claim land token, and there are even more expenses in the horizons. There are no new people, just 500 of us!

  2. This is a dual element card, first of its kind, yes, but it is damn expensive for a slow range attack monster. For the record, it is nearly as expensive as Lux Vega ($500 original Max price with vouchers, which is free for me), which is perhaps the most versatile summoner in game. No one can argue that their utility is even close.

  3. It is not particularly rare either, with 4948 single BCX sold, and current circulation of 1833 for regular foil, it is not even nearly as rare as Waka (with current circulation of 500 for regular foil). Even with future combination, I don't think it will match Waka's rarity anytime soon.

Still I did my part

Yes, I didn't feel like buying this at all, however, I am known to do 'philanthrophy' and wanted to support the team even if this was a major mistake in both concept and execution. It will be remembered as a 'cash grab' for a long time. But hey! They need the revenue, and that's the truth. So I bought!

No, that's not all. I have bought 5 Max Regular foils worth (all combined already) and got 3 GF. My luck is never very good, so had to buy a GF from the market to max my GFL. I use 3 Max regular foils for my scholars and the single Max GF for myself. Rest are for rentals.

It is what it is!

With that said, the burn DEC event is on its 2nd day only and community burned nearly 500M DEC/DEC-B. Now that is what I call a successful event!

The Splinterlands

Sort:

While narrow in its use case, there are some battle conditions that are exceptionally well-positioned for Zyriel. I've found her excellent on the death team sandwiched between Riftwing and Chaos Agent at the back for sneak protection. I would probably use her on a life team more if I had truthspeaker, but that is a different story. Because I wanted specifically GF though, I didn't buy any from the company, instead buying directly from the market in the $200 range.

I see a few interesting combos for a life build. Warrior of Peace for sure, with all those debuffs, and Helmet Kharafax (mmm bloodlust), pelacor conjurer, truthspeaker (as you mentioned), or Evelyn Auvera before even delving into the Mercenaries you could pair up with her. I almost forgot Angel of Light.

Edit to add after looking into it, I only see Chaos Agent, Lord Arianthus, and G Cube in neutrals that look like they'd be a particularly badass combo.

Ballsy move to play her with Return Fire and Unprotected. Worked out better than I'd have imagined.

the boost from Angel of Light is quite high. Still lucky! Its a fact that its not a bot line up :)

I really only like Chaos Agent, unless we are battling in reverse speed... then Lord A and Cube get much better. I don't have the Angel, but that is a great pairing. I've definitely tried Zyriel with the new epic SB monster as well as conjurer in snipe matchups with Ilthain.

yes, interesting card. Also Zyriel with Angel of light and Truthspeaker on either side works too.

Just way overpriced.

Yeah, you know me, not the biggest fan of the Life teams, so those are a few cards I don't have. However, those new SB epic cards with no attack seem good to pair with Zyriel as well.

With that said, the burn DEC event is on its 2nd day only and community burned nearly 500M DEC/DEC-B. Now that is what I call a successful event!

For sure! Gunna have a guess and say to finish in 200th spot you will need 2 million points.

image.png

Me thinks it's best / cheaper to get the 2 million now if you want a title 😄

2M points! Oh Boy! That's a lot for 200 th rank, What is the multiplier now? Below 3 obviously, question is how much people will be willing to push.

She looks like a mean warrior, quite similar to the life's assassin card which used to deal poison damange too, I forgot the name. This one fits life splinter perfectly design-wise.

Start playing again Amor, will you? :)

Ah, you know where I stand with it. I wish there were mainstream games with crypto inbuilt. Perhaps it's just too different and crypto doesn't incorporate that well with traditional games. Even then, I don't last long in games, I lose heart. It's a personal limitation I'd say.

lets see what we can do with land

This is the one you were talking about?

Yeah exactly! I remember I initially thought this was a man, but after closer inspection, she revealed herself!

still a relevant card

I am really surprised at the burning event - a lothas been burned. However, I guess it makes sense for those who have large quantities of DEC and guilds to think of. For the average player, I am not so sure.

I barely use Zyriel .

It will be 500+ M plus DEC burned by the time this event is over. This is what I call a successful event. It is simple and effective, and there is incentive.

Zyriel on the other hand is largely a failed event, but hey still pull $2M from the community. It is what it is.

It's interesting that you pointed out the comparison between the sale event vs the burn event. I wanted to participate in both, but I have limited resources in the current market, however, I couldn't pass up the burn event. If the sale is for something I can buy later off the market (probably at a significantly lower price), I'll take that route, but I can't pass up a 3 for one deal, so I have to throw something at it to take advantage, even if it's just a fraction of what I'd like to do. Maybe it's something to consider going forward.

Yes, I wish I had more DEC. I can't compete with most of my piers.

The Zyriel are is really good and I wanted it for my collection but it was just a little too expensive for my taste. I haven't even used the card yet to see how good it is. All in all, the promo definitely was unsuccessful.

This Great Burning, on the other hand, has been one heck of a success. The enthusiasm from the community has been insane.

Yes, it is expensive, but price is dropping a bit.

I haven't used it yet, I think it's a good card but I think there are better ones and it doesn't really catch my attention, but I'll try to take a look at it soon.

I use 3 Max regular foils for my scholars...

By the way, how can I become your scholar?

You have to be the best of the best player :)

Also, I don't have a spare deck at the moment

😂

Show me your game resume :)

Look at that, 56.75% my winning percentage, I'm a pro man 😎

Excellent :)

It's nice to see that you made your part for the game. Good job.
Until now, I didn't use Zyriel in any battle but I was thinking of renting one to use it. Let's see how she can perform.
It was a nice read, thanks for sharing.

Thank you for your approval :)

I agree that the timing wasn't ideal and that makes me look to the future plans of the team wanting to crank out a promo card every quarter. This is something the community (including myself) called for but with everything else going on both inside and outside of Splinterlands I hope future promos will be designed in a way where they can be profitable for the company, have relative scarcity, and easily sell out as that creates a positive hype environment for the community.

Curious to know from your scholars just how impactful the card actually is once it has been battle tested a bit.
