RE: dLine: The Hive Fediverse Portal

Furthermore, each instance has less users than
Twitter, and so less data to offer if they wished to monetize
it. If an instance did monetize its user’s data, Mastodon has
tools to allow easy switching of instances, so users would
have little reason to stay on an instance that did not respect
their privacy.
This creates an environment where instance owners have
strong incentives to protect users information, and users are
not locked into any particular host

So when I read this initially I do think I misunderstood that there was features to allow monetization.

...but having this Hive-focused portal is for a sense of unity and to help people connect on something that's new to them.

Ok so this does sound good but why are they wanting to come to Hive? Free speech or freedom from fiat? Yes, the price of Hive is low and activity will surly be higher once we break certain dollar levels but I think community of Hive better suited to handle freeloaders than in '17/'18 ie vote4vote guies. It just seems Hive could be incorporated more on dline and put on display for people to see how content creators in Nigeria or Venezuela can survive with blogging on hive. I mean such a key tool will help destabilize governments and free people but not before they were already starved half way to death.

Sort:

I think some of them do try to monetize by stacking the instance with influencers and then locking account subs. People try and get the handle of the instance. So far I can only think of one that could be doing that and it's just my suspicion (I don't care enough to confirm).

They don't always want to come to Hive. I had a chat with one to whom I offered a Hive account but he didn't want to monetize his content. He figured his writing (which was of excellent quality) was not good enough for monetization.

We currently have most of @Neoxian's "city" on dline but not everyone posts. I try and get people from all over the world so we can get some interesting discussions going. It helps to see the posts at least and they do get shared out. The Hive instance is the only one that I can think of or I've come across so far where we have people write in languages other than English. I'd like to see that broadened since so far its mostly Spanish that's used. Hive is global and that should carry over to our supporting communities like dline.

I dislike how you always meet me in the middle then make me respect you immensely with civil conversation jk but seriously I guess you sold me despite my differing opinions on Hive monetization though your points are valid. We should talk on phone one day you would be cool guy to talk to I think. I will participate in dline if accepted.

Haha thanks man. You got an active account there.

So tired I appreciate bro thank you!😴 will come tomorrow with it
