April journal

Bit of a temperature roller coaster. It was warm, there was rain, this week they also announced frost. We hope this is the last week with frost. Everything has blossomed or is in bloom. Only quince and medlar remain, which bloom later. We didn't have frost in March., but now in April there is a possibility of frost.

Since we have a lot of young plants, we decided to protect them at least in some way. It was not a question of money, but of time. To react at the right time. Many recommend agrotextile as an excellent choice. I didn't take it on time. The option that we used are cloth bags. We simply dressed smaller fruits in sacks. And we are doing that all this week, I think we started on Tuesday.

I noticed that the neighbor next to me, who has an orchard in the whole garden, was burning straw on Friday evening. I don't have enough straw or hay to burn all over the orchard. But it is also one of the methods for protecting fruit trees.

I protected the blackberries, raspberries and part of the strawberries with my mini greenhouses. And it's a proven method that does a great job.I recycle water balloons in a good way.

20260409_175920.jpgThe old pepper tile turned out to be an excellent holder for the balloons, so that the wind does not blow them away.
The strawberries that are under the foil have started to bloom. So we had to protect them too. We used the same tools. We just cut them to cover a larger area

Since the fight lasts this whole week, we cover it in the evening and uncover it in the morning, it is good that the peas, onions and godji do not need to be protected from frost.

The nice weather also brought work for my son's toys, and it also activated his lounger.
As of Sunday, we are getting better weather and higher night temperatures, so let's rest a little

Phew, you do need a hammock after all that effort. We don't get insane frosts here. Obviously it's worth the effort!

After this fight, we need a rest :)
The effort is really worth it.
Because if we don't fight the frost, the leaves and plants end up black as if burned by fire, and they have a hard time recovering.

Just like in my place it's hot weather but later on it will rain . By the way your flowers are beautiful

Thank you

Are peas quite hardy? I'm thinking when to plant mine out. It's still quite cold at the low 10s now

Yes, it depends on the type. But in general, peas tolerate cold well. You also have autumn-winter types, we sowed them last year in late autumn, they survived the winter and started well in spring.
This pea that I sowed is now spring but it can withstand these temperatures well below ten. There were nights with one or two degrees.
