In the morning I noticed my communist kitty doing her usual routine of resting on top of my UPS, basically a battery backup to prevent my computer from being destroyed during the constant power cuts that are normal everywhere in Cambodia. The battery produces heat, and Meow uses it to warm up in the morning before switching to sun rays. When Meow and I went outside to investigate the morning, we found a few village kids down in the riverbed monitoring their fishing net.
Meow has slowly taught me different things in her language. I've learned that she prefers to drink fresh water from the dipper in the bathroom rather than from her water bowl. She has a special "meow" to let me know she's in the bathroom and wants to drink water, a meow to let me know she's returned home from adventures at 4am in the morning, and many, many more. She's made herself an integral part of family despite me not being a cat person before she she strutted into my house.
🚰 Bathroom Drains Are Magical 🔮
I've found little time to post lately because life has presented me with various obstacles, some good and some bad. My wife's US Visa interview was approved, so I've been working on getting her case transferred from Guyana to Cambodia where we now live. My youngest daughter is still awaiting an interview date and my oldest daughter's case was denied. It's frustrating at times, but at least I have a kitty that worries about the state of the bathroom drain.
⛺ Visitor Arrives By CB400 🏍️
It's now been a few weeks already, but we had an American visitor that lives here in Cambodia come to visit and camp at our place. He rode a CB400 all the way to our place, a massive bike by Cambodian standards. He let me take it for a spin and I was immediately reminded how tall 1st gear is compared to my little SuperCub 90.
I enjoyed taking the bike for a ride, but here 90cc of power is enough for me because the local roads aren't very good and the drivers are pretty wild and mostly unlicensed here. Another benefit is that roadside mechanics can easily fix common problems on common bikes, but if a CB400 breaks down in the countryside, it's gonna be an issue that involves several nights in a hotel awaiting parts.
When our visitor decided to hit the road again, he decided to explore more of the country instead of head back to Kampot where he lives. I squirted some oil on his chain and gave him directions to a newly navigable road near the Thai border that runs north-south. It was nice to have another visitor and get to see their opinions of our place and get valuable feedback.

I think my cat is like a heat-seeking missile, always looking the hottest coziest spot to relax. She seems to know she's a VIP despite being a die-hard communist, haha.
Are you turning your house into an Airbnb-type accommodation? When the opportunity arises, I would be thrilled to visit during my trip to Cambodia. 😀
I think that will eventually be a stage that we pass through. At the moment we're hosting guests who are friends and/or understand we're not a fully operational modern business. At the moment things are rustic, a little more like a homestay I guess.
It's a little dark at night, there are still some visible construction materials, there's not much grass because of all the construction, so therefore a bit muddy in the rainy season. A lot of little things like this make me afraid I'd get bad reviews, but for someone who understands the situation here before coming, all have been happy to visit and stay for up to several weeks.

She is a strange kitty, doesn't mind getting her paws wet, and she doesn't even run from splashing water. I've even seen her just casually walking around outside during rainstorms.
