Audi Rally Car Lego Set

I like a good car set and this new one from the Speed Champions range is very cool.

Front with Driver.jpg

It's Lego Set number 76897 - The Audi Sport Quattro S1 which was a legend of rallying in the mid 1980's - I I love that lego have gone for something a bit more classic in the Speed Champions range, and I like that the 80's is now considered classic cool.

Side Rear.jpg

I like the boxy angular look of it and the white wheels I particularly like the reverse tile on at the bottom at the rear - it's got the shape of a car just right.

Driver.jpg

Like all Speed Champions it's not quite the right size for the minifigs, he really should have a co-driver in there but it won't fit two minfigs side by side. I dig how panicked he looks.

Overall it's a awesome set, that can be rebuilt into a lot of things, I dig the yellow and the retro stickers

and just one more photo for you - and it has removable fog lights.

And just so you understand how close to the real thing this is - here's a video of the 1985 S1 Quattro

Also a big fan of the S1! To bad they didn't place Walter Röhrl in it 😀

Pretty cool. I saw one of these run a few years ago at a rally here. I'll see if I can dig up the photos. Awesome car, one of the rally-greats.

Ah, such wonderful cars are these Quattros. Even though I'm a big Lancia fan, it's hard to not love it. Truly awesome creations, mate :-D

Lancia's were beasty!

Definitely! It's such a shame to see what their corporate masters have turned them into nowadays, but I have hopes. Anyways, here's the Lancia 037, the one that brought the Quattro to its knees, thanks to some clever Italian cunning.

I've seen one of these run...Brutal man, always on the edge of disaster but also always in control.

They really are monstrous things these old 037s. They're superbly lightweight, owing to a construction that's not entirely protective of the driver if things to wrong, but it handles like a dream.

Motor racing back in the day never put much thought into driver safety. It wasn't until Jackie Stewart started pushing on the safety aspect that things started to improve.

It's good to have safety be such a large part of motorsports these days, after seeing F1 implement the halo on their cars, and all. Though somehow I feel like the "we want our drivers to be safe" attitude has consequently made it rather dull in some parts.

Stuff like silly penalties for slightly cutting grass that could "endanger" another driver, and all these inquiries are making it less exciting to enjoy. Maybe it's become too safe now, a bit unbalanced.

I love the dude's panicked expression!

80s cars are perfect for LEGO.
