Brake Failure in Dades Valley

in Road Trips10 days ago

Of course, when you drive an old Land Rover, problems are bound to occur. In many ways, we expected it to happen. We had been driving some super hard roads.

When we came through the gorgeous Dades valley, with it's beautiful views and poplar and fig trees, the brakes got scarily soft. Jamie was worried.

We had ended up in the most beautiful camping spot. We even had a patch of grass for Jamie to get the tyres off. It was absolutely a brake issue... The brake fluid was all over the pads and dissolving the paint inside the rim. Thank goodness we WERE at this wonderful site as the owner, Ibrahim, called his mechanic friend who came by to assess after he finished work at 9 pm at night!!!

The next day we took it down to his garage. He got the parts we needed from a neighbouring town and four hours later and €60 we were on our way.

The best thing about having an old car meant that we could get parts easily and it was easy to fix .. apart from the brake bleed which is always hard. These brakes were about to take us over a high mountain pass so 60 euros meant nothing and everything.

Crazy adventure.

How cool is that. If you had a modern car with computerized everything it would require some more doing to fix, like waiting for parts to arrive. Great to hear it all worked out.

Yeah it's a lot better with an old car. We weren't even that worried. We knew there would be a mechanic close by!

I’m so glad it happened before the pass! And how wonderful the mechanic and parts were at hand. Hope the pass was a good trip as a result.

Yes there's some good mechanics in North Africa!

Great you could get it sorted out fast but most special that stop before you needed the brakes badly, you mention an old car...I can only imagine the pain in the ass that is to take a modern car on a trip and have something similar happen, where to get parts from 😅

Oh man I'm glad they didn't fail over the mountains!
