Smile! Here I bring you a tucu-tucu

I write beneath the moonlight. Once again, the moon and I are bound in companionship, embarking on our nocturnal adventures. And tonight—just as always, the night returns along with my musings—a being of light has graced me with its presence.

A foolish little smile plays upon my lips… I like to believe it is a beautiful omen, a conversation between souls, or at the very least, the prelude to one—whispers of past lives, energies, and fated encounters.

It is now the deep hours of the night, and as the melody of my keyboard fills the silence, I reflect on all the moments yesterday that caught me by surprise—the butterflies, the hummingbirds that flitted through my garden, the ever-present music that emboldens my heart, stripping away its timidity and awakening its sense of adventure, and this peculiar little cocuyo (fire beetle), bearing a rather curious name, which, I must confess, I like it very much.

Allow me to introduce Pyrophorus noctilucus, a beetle with a grandiose name and, let us be fair, a marvel of bioluminescence. Unlike fireflies, it emits a steady glow even in stillness.

It had been quite some time since I last saw cocuyos here.

As a child, I would catch them and place them in a glass jar. Naturally, we punctured tiny holes in the lid to ensure they could breathe. They shone brilliantly—it was delightful. Then, we would release them and watch in awe as they adorned the cloak of night with their luminous presence.

That was usually in the village where I spent my holidays with my mischievous cousins—a reckless joy (craziness, let's say) embraced me upon arrival and departure, and one that, it seems, still pulses through my veins 😊.

For English speakers, in the video I simply ask it to fly, and when the fire beetle starts walking along my arm, I tell it that it seems to be heading in the wrong direction.

See you soon. I hope you also enjoy this beautiful moment. I'm off to sleep now.

Thank you @tahastories1 and Hive Pakistan. 😊

Good morning @nanixxx (or good evening) thanks for sharing such a bright moment. I didn't know of the existence of your friend, the light beetle, thank you for sharing the magic of that moment.

🫂

Ahhh... I suddenly fell asleep. Already it seems that tiredness overcame me. So it's "good morning" 😃.
Thank you @enraizar. I hope there is good weather because these days I saw it was raining and windy in Zaragoza. Or did I dream that you told me you were going there? 😅
The magic is very intense around here these days. Things are happening that are as beautiful as they are inexplicable...
The cocuyo makes a sound when it turns upside down with its head, it makes a clicking sound (like a tucu-tucu) that propels it, it jumps and turns right side up again.

hice este GIF para que lo veas

Two came yesterday. The first one was a little bit bigger and this one was tiny.

Oh I do love that name cocuyo... I am guessing they don't bite? Love it though, isn't nature amazing!

Wishing you a wonderful Sunday Nani :)

ahhh... I was super late to reply to you, sorry. Well no, they don't bite.

And I wish you a great week which I hope has already started in style.

Better late than never!
Thank you and enjoy this magical week :)

Wow, that is so cool! I had never even heard of these cute little night beasts!

You know? There are stories about cocuyos in the countryside. Legends. There is one about a farmer who lost his way home because it was dark at night and found a big cocuyo that helped him find his way because it served as a lantern. But when he got home he told the cocuyo that he could go back, and the cocuyo spoke to him. Hahaha... it told him that now it was his turn to take him back.

😂

What a scare I would have had if that cocuyo had answered me when I told him he was going the wrong way!

Haha, that's a good tale!!

I think we all prefer the breasts that do not speak!! 😃😃

Better the breasts than the beasts hahaha... you're a crack. But there are breasts that are beasts hahaha... they are still silent, it's ok.

Aargh. I have been punkd by my autocorrect!!! 🤣🤣

You can see that an ‘r’ can be decisive! 🤣

It can change everything!!

One could have thought that was harmful but it all seems good and tender with it's beautiful light that shines out bright..

They say it is one of the most brilliant insects in existence! And many people see them as heralds of the dead and ghosts...😁

I had never seen a firefly before and thought it was one when I saw the video, which left me with my mouth open and a big smile on my face. Then I read you and I really didn't know that this marvel existed, what a beauty that light emits even when still!!!! Beautiful!

The amazing fireflies!! In my place namely Kunang-Kunang.

It's not properly a firefly... but I love to know the name they have over there. In Indonesia, right?

Fireflies are from the Lampyridae family, soft-bodied, while cocuyos are from the Elateridae family, very hard-bodied and can jump.

In a comment here I left a GIF. You can see how they do it. 😄

Thank you!

Waah thank you for enlighten me
Yeaah hello from Indonesia.🤩

👋😃

It is a happy coincidence that I was also visited by two of them. A big one when I opened the door of my house was flying down the stairs and later a smaller one at my bedroom window. I think they wanted to give me light in the absence of electricity. As you would say an omen or someone from beyond giving us light. Have a good weekend daughter I love you. ❤️❤️❤️

I know this is not a firefly, but what beautiful memories you have brought back with them, they would come into my house and glow in the dark while I was trying to sleep, my garden was full of fireflies, then they just disappeared 💔

It is sad that this kind of insects are rarely seen, it is something wonderful and this video of this beetle brought some joy to my day ❤️

It wasn't going the wrong way, it just wanted to kiss you goodbye haha 😂

I love to know that this little post brought you joy. There, in the comments, I left little tidbits you might want to take a look at.
The thing is that those little bugs leave illuminated places in search of others shrouded in shadows, precisely to give them their light. 😉
