turn their backs on each other,
each clutching a doll,
as if trying to compress their pain.
Sober pains and active neuronal activity,
GABAergic neurons firing within their shared pain,
yet pushing them apart,
driving them down separate paths.
Is it pain? Denial? What could it be?
Their faces visible, their hearts seemingly connected,
gazes hinting at a desire for reunion.
They are children, and surely this will pass.
