"You better drop this crime loving attitude of yours or you will end up miserable in future! You better settle down to your studies and try making yourself useful to the society or else, the society will put you where you will not be happy!" Mr John was heard shouting these words to his son.
Jide his son was 15 years old but he was already a very lawless little imp. He was very popular among the rabble-rousers in the street and a very notorious pick-pocket in town. At his tender age, he was a very good patron of the various bars and clubs scattered all over the town. All efforts by his father to get him back into school proved abortive as he will either refuse going entirely or he will commit a great crime which will get him expelled.
He had been held by the police a lot of times but because of his age, he would not be locked up for long.
Two years later Jide left for the nation's capital and for a couple of years, not one heard from him. His parents were very worried, knowing the how criminally minded he was.
"Who is that?" Mrs John, Jide's mother shouted when she heard someone knocking.
"Open up!" It is policeman
Her heart did a double flip and kept racing very fast.
"Good morning officer. How may we help you?" She asked.
"Is this the house of one Mr John Dele?" The policeman asked.
"Yes it is. Hope there is not problem?" Jide's mum asked. She could not hide the worries in her voice.
"Can you identify this person?" The policeman asked as he brought out a photo from the brown envelope he was carrying.
Mrs John took on look at it and her legs almost gave way. She saw her son Jide, in cuffs and almost unrecognizable as a result of his swollen and bruised face.
"Yes Sir. He is my son." She managed to reply.
"I was sent from the state headquarter to tell you that your son Jide was recently arrested for armed robbery and murder. He will appear in court next week Tuesday, so do well to sure up. Although he will surely serve a long jail tern, that is if he is not served the death sentence. Permit me to take my leave!"
