Fledgling: Part 53

Greetings Readers

Some hard truths about what people knew was happening to Kay, but were not willing to help because of what her father could offer. Sad, but a touch of reality does bring some realness to the story.

Enjoy the update!

There had been no hesitation in following the first part of his order, but there was some confusion in the second part. As Shareik was to learn later, this timeline didn’t have any royals but rather the humans were ruled by a militant group. It was through them that Shareik learned the name of the Heavenly that had been assigned to this time. He had disappeared some time ago and no one knew where he had gone. Shareik was surprised that no one had been reassign to this time. However, the more time the military individuals spoke to him, the more he came to realise that there was no hint of the Fell Dragon’s corruption here.

Despite this, Shareik and insisted on talking to one that held the most power. A highly decorated officer eventually took the time to see him. A general of some sort. One that had spent decades fighting the Kai incursion, and one that was furious that humans on his home territory had been attacked.

Instead of Shareik getting a word in edge way, the general had bombarded him with questions. Heavenly intervention hadn’t been seen in decades since the royal family had been overthrown. Seeing one now in the wake of a Kai attack was suspicious and answers were warranted.

Shareik knew that if he was ever going to see how this Fell Dragon became leashed, he needed to play his role well. Straightening his robes as he sat, he simply said.

“A danger is coming to your timeline. A creature of immense strength and appetite seeks to eat its way through this time to strengthen itself.”

The general sneered and said, “I don’t deal in fairy tales, old man.”

“Surely you have heard of the Fell Dragon.”

The general seemed to pause. What red colour in his face he had, had disappeared. It was clear that this time had been warned of the Fell Dragon’s existence.

“I am aware.”

“I came because I identified someone who would be instrumental in fighting it back if it were to ever make its way here.”

“And does that have anything to do with the child that was found attacked on the homestead?”

“It has everything to do with her.”

The general snorted and removed a piece of paper from his pocket. “I doubt it. She has no abilities.”

That was when Shareik learned that this timeline documented and kept track of the various abilities of the populace and this child had shown no skills that were noteworthy.

“Her father, Kaiden Samus, was a failed farmer with a severe drinking problem. However, his ability to mould the very earth was the only reason he never landed up in the poor house. The girl, Samantha Kay Kaiden, never showed an affinity for anything. In fact, her father had her registered as non-skilled.”

“Something killed those Kai.” Said Shareik softly.

The general nodded his head slowly and then muttered. “It would make sense that he didn’t want to register his daughter, with what he was doing to her.”

“Excuse me?”

The general waved his own comment away and asked, “What ability do you think she has?”

Shareik thought back to what he saw in the house before he answered, “She had the ability to harvest energy and mould it into some sort of weapon.”

The general nodded his head. “That was what I assumed when I saw the images of the house. That is a rare skill. Only a few have ever been born with it.”

The general extended his fingers to a potted plant close by and brushed his fingers over it. The leaf withered, and when the general turned his hand upwards, a pool of silver energy lay in the centre of it.

“If this is her ability, do you think she would be able to hold her own against this Fell Dragon?”

“More than likely, but there may need to be some adaptations, depending on what the Dragon is capable of and her full strength.”

I will need to write a bit more, because I have run out of material for next week.
